Marvel Heroic Roleplaying: Civil War Event Book Essentials Hardcover – September 25, 2012

I have yet to use this in play, but I can tell you the book arrived in great shape and the binding looks and feels solid. Layout of content is very pleasing to my eye's. You should love it if you already use the core book.

So here is how this book works. If you have the core Roleplaying game you just need this item to add the event and updated/new characters to play in the event. If your new to MHRPG then let me tell you that the game if fun for rolling dice and lots of them. It still needs some additional depth and there are concerns about replayability. With that said the game is fun once you wrap your head around how it plays.

Great book! Full of new characters and a great story to play through. I love how they did adventures in this game. So smart. Sadly, they are not making this anymore, so buy what you can while they last.

I have a copy of the Basic Heroic #1. This is a good game solid, if you don't mind dice. I don't mind dice too much though to be very honest. (I mentioned that in another review.) I like the fact Marvel's Powers-that-Be created Events based on ture big adventures from the actual comics.

Although I don't quite love the Marvel Heroic system, this is a very high-quality book. I mostly bought it for the extra Hero Datafiles, and there are quite a few of them in here.

I didn't like it, it wasn't for me. I thought I would based on what everyone was saying about how narrative the system was and that it allowed for really good role playing. I found this to be very untrue. First off, there is no character creation system, you are going to be playing a marvel super hero. They give some vague shadows of rules that amount to something along the lines of "be reasonable". But there is no rolling up a character, no point buy, no nothing. I want to play as my own hero in a campaign and progress and get better over time, this doesn't allow that. Secondly, The way that this system is really narrative is that you talk about how you're gaming the system on your pregen for the biggest advantage. Not my idea of a good time, but that's just me.Overall, I think it would be okay for a one-shot, but not a campaign, and I feel that hacking it would take to much work because there is no explanation for how the characters are built. Hope this at least helps someone.
