Q: What are the measurements of the base?

Approximately 43" on each side however you can place it in a smaller area by bringing the poles closer together, which will cause the sides to drape instead of being taut. My son placed his in a corner and adjusted the poles accordingly. He used pillows to hold the draped tent sides where he wanted them and made a nice reading nook.

Q: what is the dimension of the inside of the tent? I would like to make a mat for it.

According to the product description it is 43.3" on each side.

Q: How do you get the tent to stay taught and upright? It immediately gets droopy and is so easy to knock over! Can I lock it in place somehow?

Make sure you pull the fabric part of the tent up to the top of poles as you fold out the poles. When I do this it is nice and sturdy.
