Truly the best fire starter I've found, and I've used/owned many. 3) It throws HUGE amounts of sparks, something you want and need for quick fire starting with minimum striking. The channeled groove that the strike steel fits into guides it along the ferro rod and minimizes/eliminates slipping and poor strikes, maximizing the sparks thrown and where they go. 2) There is proprietary fuel in the device. This stuff lights very quickly, burns long, and can be replaced when used up. 1) (and most important) IT CAN BE USED SINGLE HANDED. This to me is what makes this a survival tool and not just a fire starter. How frustrating and tragic to be stuck somewhere that you need to make a fire and one of your hands/arms is out of service. Everything you need to start a fire is right here in this device and you can use one hand to do it, using the included fuel and and using one of your feet to hold the device in place while aiming it at the fuel, then using one hand to strike the rod. (I've personally tried it and it works) I've put this tool up against the others I've purchased, and I'd put it up against anything else out there. Made in the USA too, so there's the cherry on top.

Excellent tool.Had three different fire starting tools out teaching my kids some fire starting basics. My 8 year old son started a fire with this one by far the fastest when compared to traditional flint... third try using dryer lint as primary tinder.The genius is in the design. Good strong handle which allows positioning where you want. Great ‘strike path’, meaning there is only one area to strike which is a cutout. And perhaps most importantly the design provides a direct path for sparks to travel down the cylinder, which means a greater concentration of spark over a smaller surface area. Having the striker connected means less chance of loss. This is now my primary fire starting device. I’m. It sure about the weight, it’s not much, but heavier than wp matches, and other devices i own, but even in my most extremely minimal outings I will carry one of these. With the right tinder it makes fire starting a breeze... usually on the first strike.I was surprised with the success with my two kids (8 & 12), so I had my wife try, and within a few attempts, she was able to start a fire easily as well. If two young kids and an adult who has little interest in the outdoors can start a fire within a minute or two, I realized the simplicity and results and I bought a couple more and put them in different emergency bags and vehicles.Honestly, I wish I would have designed it. Great job.

Works great in the Montana wilderness. I use it for starting fires or even on my stove.

Love this fire starter. Best one I've used, and I believe the best one invented thus far.I liked it so much, I bought 5 of them. One for me and 3 for 3 of my camping friends, because it works so well, especially on small wet twigs.One strike and it will ignite wet twigs and keep them going so you can add larger and larger sticks and have a hot cooking fire in good order in just a few minutes.If you're a modern, semiprimitive or primitive camper, you won't need Any other fire starting tool, not even a lighter or matches. You can go into the woods with confidence with just this well made and very functional fire starting tool.

I have several sparking fire starters: a ferro rod and and a steel striker, All of them work, on tinder, alcohol stoves, etc. Scrape the rod, sparks fly. This one is the ONLY one that focuses/aims the spark, (no worries lighting a puddle of liquid fuel,) the only one that is easy to use one-handed. Others I have could be used one-handed, but none as easily as this one. If you are happy with what you have now, great. But if you can afford this marvelous tool, get one! You won't regret it! It actually allows you to AIM the sparks. Plus: parts are replaceable.

This ferro rod is literally dynamite. It always makes intense sparks on the first strike. I ordered the regular size and the mini size. Both perform equally well. Although they are more expensive than a generic ferro rod, when my or my families life is on the line I have no doubt that I can start a fire one handed, with numb hands or any situation nature throws at me. Highly recommend!

I watched the videos, listened to the infomercial and decided I had to have one. Well, I now know what gift is a must for everyone's emergency packs and for every Scout leaders at the end of each year. This is so well made that it's something you can pass onto your kids after years of use.I unpacked and and tested several tinder bundles with it for paper towels, dryer lint, dry grass, and leaves, amazingly all of the bundles started with one strike with the exception of the leaves, which took two strikes, and I expect that because they were slightly damp.

I don't give out five stars often. This product deserves it. I am very, very happy with it. I have found I don't even need tinder. I can start fire directly on feathered wood. My self proclaimed 'outdoorsman' cousin salivates over it every time he sees me use it.If I were hard pressed to find a negative it would be I wish it were about 75% the size. But I am not complaining.If it were cheaper I would buy one for every vehicle and grab bag I have.
