This book is truly inspiring and motivating. It’s such a great read with an amazing story.

I loved Dr Bilbrew’s story. She tells us of her origin and the journey to becoming a black female orthopedic surgeon practicing at the top of her field. Although this is her personal story, the common thread is that I’ve heard this story from many of my black female colleagues about the struggles, micro and macro aggressions, marginalization they endure to make it thru. It’s always an uphill battle to be treated equally. Stereotypes and bias is ubiquitous in medicine. She tells her story… but she is one of MANY! This book is not just for doctors. But anyone dealing with struggles along their journey… but want to come out on top. She is victorious!!! I look forward to seeing her as a household name!!

This book grabbed my attention from the introduction and kept it until its too-soon, conclusion. Though I am not in the medical field, Its lessons lend themselves to every area of life, in every field of study. The message is resoundingly clear: stay the course! Whatever your goals are, persist!
