Peter White Christmas with Mindi Abair and Rick Braun by Peter White

The songs are songs you'd expect, but the arrangements are uniquely theirs!
Over the course of 2018 I picked up several Peter White CDs, so it only made sense that I would seek out a Christmas CD by him as well. This one did not disappoint. I don't know how I missed him in the past, but I've thoroughly enjoyed getting to know his touch and sound. I've not listened to Mindi Abair in quite a while (we don't have a decent jazz station in my city), but I've always enjoyed her sound and the albums of hers that I have are well played and frequently in playlists. This collection of old standards fits nicely into a Christmas mix. The songs are songs you'd expect, but the arrangements are uniquely theirs, so they're refreshingly different and very enjoyable.

not all traditional Christmas songs. Refreshing.
Love that this has 3 smooth jazz powerhouse musicians. Love that it has a lot of original tracks - not all traditional Christmas songs. Refreshing.

Christmas Cheer from Three of the Greats in Smooth Jazz
Having just seen the live Christmas tour of White, Abair and Braun, (from which this album is derived) this collection is a pleasant reminder of a very fun evening. Its not too often that such well-know and talented artists come together to produce an interesting and entertaining album of this caliber. But that is just what has happened with this very enjoyable group of Christmas tunes. Not only does this album have the incredible guitar virtuosity of Peter White (especially on his rendition of "Silent Night"), but we are also treated to not only the fantastic sax playing of Mindi Abair but also to her unique singing voice for three numbers. I really like the cute, sexy "I Can't Wait For Christmas," followed up by the poignant Joni Mitchell song "River." Mindi also sings "The Best Part of Christmas" - but sadly not performed for the live show. Rick Braun also gets his moment to shine with "Little Drummer Boy." The live show was the perfect way to launch the holiday season and this album will bring back the memories for many years to come. To those who have not had the opportunity to see these three in concert (either alone or together) the album is a delightful combination of both old and new holiday songs. I would recommend its inclusion in anyone's Christmas and holiday music CD collection.

Lovely Christmas CD
I first saw Mindi Abair on the Emeril Live show on the Food Network. I was looking for new Christmas music and saw this and after sampling a few tracks, I had to have it. I was not familiar with Rick or Peter prior to this CD.The combination of Peter's guitar, Ricks trumpet & flugelhorn & Mindi's Sax along with their vocals make this great. I especially like Mindi's new song - "I Can't Wait for Christmas". I was a little disappointed in her version of "River" - she does not have the range of Joni or Sarah McLachlan (who had a version on her Christmas CD last year Wintersong . Bottom line is 12 great songs out of 12.I also caught them live in my town. They were GREAT!

Goes into the top ten and probably staying there a while.
I don't know what it is about this trio, but they seem to be made for each other -even though they are all successful solo artists. There is a nice song selection, with most of the vocals by Mindi when she's not playing sax, particularly "I can't Wait for Christmas', and a sultry version of "River'. One thing I don't like is these IODA discs from Amazon that don't have full liner notes. If I get any more, I will be sending them back. Not this one, though-it's too good.

Awesome Collaboration!
What an awesome combination of artists! I had listened over the years to each of them individually, but heard they were performing together locally (Yoshi's Oakland) and decided to go as our anniversary night out. Picked this up as a memento of their fantastic performance, and and continuing to enjoy it even after Christmas!

The arrangements and the vocals are just slightly better than mediocre
A big letdown from his first Christmas album, "Songs of the Season", which I consider to be an outstanding album. "Songs of the Season" included an orchestra, dynamic arrangements, tasteful musicianship, and the feeling that a whole lot of effort(passion) went into making it. It was over ninety percent instrumental. This album just seems uninspired by comparison. The arrangements and the vocals are just slightly better than mediocre. I highly recommend "Songs of the Season", and I do not recommend this.

Jazzy Christmas!
Peter, Mindy and Rick put on an excellent Christmas show. I have seen them several times. Always a great show!. They hang around after each for a meet and greet with the fans. This CD was signed by the players.

Another side of Peter White
I never imagined Peter White would have been into that potentialy lucrative commercial Christmas album market but I think the reality is he's not, but he does like to share he's take on Chrismas check out he's previous offering "Songs Of The Season"This collaboration is quite different it's one of those things that grows on you the arrangements are very different to your bog standard xmas album.

Surprise
I have to say that I wasn't expecting an album of songs which appeared to be just a group of session singers, singing Christmas songs. I think an x-factor album would have been an improvement!I have noticed that increasingly Peters work features vocal performances by otherwise ambiguous artistes. Not what I've come to expect from earlier albums. I'll be keeping a close eye on what albums I buy from Peter White from now on...
