Excellent, tense thriller
Initially I only read Deon's English books, and loved it immediately. In Afrikaans, it all just works better. It is fast paced, and perhaps not as tense as some of his previous books, but still incredibly well written. I loved the characters, and especially enjoy the setting - for me as a South African, it's fascinating to read such a great book in areas well known to me. Best South African writer, and certainly one of the best international crime investigative thriller writers in the world right now. Read all the Bennie Griesel books to get the know the character better, but even just as a stand alone book, excellent. Loved that it is available on Kindle.

Gripping & Entertaining
"Kobra" is a gripping and very entertaining piece of writing. It is so typical South African and Deon Meyer captures the Cape Coloured language perfectly. As the reader you empathise with the main character who is a recovering alcoholic and a brilliant investigator. He struggles with his inner self while he tries to solve the case he has been assigned to - you can feel his desperation, his craving for inner peace, for acceptance for understanding, his thirst....all whilst chasing down a murderer through Cape Town. This is the 4th Deon Meyer novel I've read and I've not been disappointed. They are all entertaining - they are all thrilling and they are all gripping from the first page.Definitely worth reading!

"Derde keer skeepsreg"

Kobra
The book kept me interested as the places are known to me and I could see in my mind's eye where something happened. As I know many people in SAPS I can relate to Griessel's problems. Also we are from the same generation. The plot has many twists and turns and keeps one focused.

Kobra - best yet from Deon Meyer
A superb "skiet, skop en donder" novel, with the tension building up throughout. It's the first of Meyer's that I've read in Afrikaans and it's so much better than the translations which, it appears, haven't quite done him justice. His control of the "Cape Coloured" patois is masterful.

Kobra
The author has succeeded to take a modern police experience in the current situation of South African Police Service, and to grip the reader's attention, with the a realistic way of writing. He handles the events with a honest and kind of dearness towards the characters. Somehow it makes it easier to understand the problematic and frustrating situations in which the characters have to perform their duties. This reality at its best.

Absolutely fantastic!
