I gave this Japace Earth Science Kit to my niece after having gotten her a National Geographic dinosaur kit a few years ago. She had a blast with that, so I took a gamble on this since there were some similar components. She loved it. She really liked digging everything out and checking on her growing crystals. Everything is pretty simple and easy to set up and use. It can get a bit messy when digging the stone out, but you can just use the box to contain everything if you want simple and quick. If you don't, just be sure to set up an area to contain all the small chips, chunks, and dust that will fly off.

Kids absolutely loved it. I had 4 kids share it , ages 5, 8,9 and 10. It was a hit for all of them. The block was a but smaller than expected but they did not know :)

My son asked for one of these kits for his birthday and he was not disappointed. He had a blast digging through it, and was excited to do the crystal growing and geodes as well. Very fun kit!

My newly 3-year-old son enjoyed digging! The product description suggests an older age; however, after I got it started, he was able to dig and complete the tasks without help. This activity lasted no more than 30 minutes. Easy mess to clean/hose down outside.
