Works on my Sony RX-100 VA
I just received this and want to provide first impressions. The lens easily screws into the 52mm after-market adapter mounted to the camera lens. With the internal zoom lens pushed out to it’s max 70mm this adapter lens adds a noticeable additional magnification without obvious distortion. At lower zoom settings there is vignetting but all that is gone as the zoom is increased. The only ding so far is the cheap vinyl cinch bag, but for the price I can ignore that.So far it looks like a good value for my needs.EDIT: It appears that these reviews are commingled with more than one product. My purchase was the telephoto lens, not the wide angle.

You get what you pay for (an echo), but...
The lens is cheap, and I know enough about optics and cameras to be forewarned that I may have just thrown away $17.00. The lens arrived in a plastic bubble envelope (Sigh). I was prepared for the worst. The manufacturers box was crushed badly (second Sigh). Then I find that this is made by Vivitar, a fact not mentioned in the product description (well maybe this isn't so bad). Then I noticed that the magnification factor is 0.43 and not 0.45x as shown in the product photo (Not a real big deal, but kinda makes one wonder how careful these folks are). I tried it out on my Canon T2i 18-55 lens. There is vignetting at 18mm zoom, although the manufacturers suggestion is to use the maximum wide angle setting. However at this setting it is the equivalent of a 12mm lens (35mm film photography-I just can't get used to the small sensor focal length factors). Vignetting disappears at about 24mm zoom (16mm in 35mm equivalent). At 35 mm zoom the lens gives me a 24mm focal length equivalent. So for $17.00 I get to extend my wide angle capabilities below the 28mm equivalent on the standard Canon lens to as low as maybe 15-18mm in 35 mm equivalents with the supplementary lens. Hey not bad for a cheap lens. I'll probably only use it for those special times I need an extreme (for me) wide angle. When I did 35mm film photography I had a 21mm, 24mm, and a 28mm wide angle. Mostly I used the 28mm, sometimes the 24mm and rarely the 21mm. So right now with only a bit of testing, this looks like I didn't waste $17.00 after all.UPDATE: I did more testing and the most significant result is that the there is significant chromatic aberration outside the central 50 percent of the photo. The aberration is most noticeable at higher magnifications. It seems that if you do some judicious cropping and don't make big enlargements is won't be so noticeable--particularly at 8 x 10 or maybe 11 x 14.

Interesting product with an interesting effect.
First things first - I received this lens as a christmas gift, and previously reviewed it as bad. The previous product description was misleading, and I bought it thinking it would fit onto my 52mm lens. I bought an adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029N3U9E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and my view has changed on the product.I like taking photographs of my car, and with this lens, I was able to capture the entire interior of my car without having to back out of my vehicle.Like the product implies, it adds a wider field of view to your photos, and the effect is drastic when you're taking photos up-close.The lens (I'm assuming unintentionally) adds a chromatic aberration effect to your photos, and while it isn't very obvious when you're taking close proximity shots, it IS obvious if you take a truly wide shot. Personally, I like the effect, however I can see some people being turned off by it. There is also some vignetting that occurs at the corners of the photo. You can also take off the wide-angle lens and just take macro shots. It's pretty neat. Now that I'm able to use this product, I can give it an honest 4 out 5. The price, compared with the ease of use, small carrying case, and useful effects make this a sound purchase for anyone looking to have a little fisheye/macro fun without spending a fortune.

Great for the money!
I bought this lens to try. At first I didn't think it gave me much more wide view. Then when I held it up to my lens, and then removed it all while still looking through it I noticed a big difference! It's not a real wide angel lens no. But does this lens give you some extra depth of field in tight spaces. Yes. There is some slight distortion on the edges. But not to much I dislike the lens or am not happy with it. I found you can hide this by using a lower aperture, and focusing right on the middle. The lens works better on manual focus. The macro lens is fun! I really enjoy macro photography. And this little lens (for the money) is a lot of fun! Espically when at this time I don't have $300 for a good macro lens. This one does a good job. It too has distortion in the edges why my 4 star rating. So be sure to focus on the very middle of your subject. Focus manually, and move the camera vs. the lens in and out.So all in all for the money this lens was well worth the money! It does work best on my Canon 18-55mm lens. Very good lens for amateur photographers, and people just getting started with little cash to spend.

Macro lens adaptor is good so far
So far this lens seems to be a good cheap option for people who want to dip their toes in macro photography. I had no idea how to use it (am new to macro photography, which is why I bought this instead of a really expensive lens) but after playing around with it a bit, I was able to get really cool sharp shots. What I didn't realize at first was that macro is no joke - you need to be within a couple of inches of your subject in order to bring it into focus; otherwise it's all a blurry mess. I was trying to take pictures from 6-12 inches away and that was way too far - once I moved in really close, I was able to get good stuff. Also, I am using this on an 18-55mm kit lens for my Canon Rebel t3i, and what wound up working for me was to turn off autofocus altogether (using the switch on my 18-55 lens) and just manually focus the shot. I have not tried the wide angle piece yet but will update when I do.
