Ticks all the boxes
This transformer replaces a 12 year old Malibu 600w transformer installed outdoors and is far superior in every way. It is supporting 2 circuits of less than 100 ft. each with 10 – 2w led lamps on each circuit.Thoughts which one might find useful:• Bullet point description states 70% max load, however the label on the transformer indicates it can be used at100% (see photo)• Knockouts are properly sized for three standard conduit sizes. If conduit is not being used, then one can simplysecure the wire(s) entering the transformer box using a knockout fitting (pictured is what I used) which can be foundat most hardware stores. This keeps the cable tight and covers the knockout opening.• Since I wanted to control the transformer with my smartphone I installed a wifi smart plug in the outlet designed fora timer located inside the box. If the wifi signal to the smart plug is too weak, installing a smart outlet outside of thebox might be a solution.• The circuits, both load and length, are such that I am only using the 12v tap.• The downloadable user manual under Technical Specifications includes a formula for approximating voltage drop. This transformer has been operating for about a month and so far has exceeded my expectations for ease of installation, quality, design, function and price.

Excellent Product
Does the job, and very nicely manufactured. Quality merchandise. Easy to install. This replaced my old transformer which was not well made, and proved not to be durable in the weather. A word to the wise...this item is heavy (as all transformers are), so have a helper when you to hang it.

Good working unit and very reliable
This 300-watt unit is working wonderfully, it runs very cool, and no noise likes the cheaper ones does.I have this installed inside my garage with a photocell wired to the outside of house and a timer installed with it, it works like a charm and able to do separate on/off times during the evenings and early morning events....I've had it 4 months now and no problems so far.1 year update: I've expanded the number of landscape lights, and I have this 300-watt unit max out now, it has run beautifully without any problems for over a year now. The only downfall I would give this unit is the mechanical timer, built cheap and it has to many on/off tabs to select from, don't need for every 10 min intervals. recommend going to hardware store getting a better-quality timer brand to install.2-year update: This unit is working perfectly so far. I do have it max out on wattage, and it does get a little warm but nothing dangerously close to burning anything on the wall. My next purchase will be the 600-watt model when I expand lighting in my yard

Complete success!
After researching many low voltage transformers, I finally chose this model. The reason being:1. It's AC as opposed to DC that offers long term corrosion resistant advantages on low voltage wires. This is because unlike AC, DC current allows ions to flow through copper wire causing chemical reactions that corrode the surface of the wire. In the presence of soil humidity, this means that the lifetime of your buried wires could decrease if they carry DC. That's the main reason, I believe people complaining about low voltage wires corroding, are blaming things on the wire itself as opposed to the supply unit but it could be both. In general, a very well insulated wire could protect the copper conductor from the elements longer than a cheaper one but such wires are generally more expensive. This AC unit can help improve the lifetime of wires and cut down on cost. Also, since the unit converts 120V AC to 12V AC, there are less parts around since only one transformer is needed to do the voltage conversion. Less parts translates to a cheaper more economical unit that's also more reliable since there are less parts to fail in the long term.2. It can output up to 15V that compensates for voltage drops over long wires. This is important if you have more than 300 feet of 12 gauge wire to cover your lighting needs since the lights at the end of the wire could flicker or feebly work if voltage drops to lower than 10V and are rated 12V / 24V.

Great unit with room for slight engineering improvements
I really like this unit. It is well-made and the stainless housing is not magnetic, so it is made of a SS alloy that will not rust (BTW: a great test for SS grills, also). The integrated analogue timer is a convenient feature. Although I would not hesitate to recommend buying one, I do have two recommendations for engineering improvements. The first is the terminal block, it could be "beefed up" for heavier gauge wire. I had a difficult time stuffing 2 X 12 gauge wires into the block. However, I did not have a problem with the screws stripping out as another reviewer noted. The second issue is the design of the knock-out holes. If using conduit, the rear two knock-outs are almost useless because the openings are vey close to the bottom of the internal transformer housing. I suppose they could be used for push-in plastic wire grommets for romex or line cord, but if the housing was made about 1" longer, there would be no problem using these rear knock-out holes for conduit or 1/2" romex strain relief connectors. The blanking plugs for the knock-outs also tend to separate at the 3/4" opening size. Again, I am very happy with the unit and would purchase it again. The two aforementioned issues fall more into the annoyance category, rather than deal-breakers.Update: I just installed a second one of these units and, within the limitations described in my original review, very happy with its design and performance.
