FYI: FLAVOR CHANGED FROM BACON TO CHICKEN (rewritten from a previous review I deleted)
The flavor of these was changed from bacon to chicken between my first order and reorder. The bacon flavor my dog loved and ate with no problem. They really helped to calm her for thunderstorms and being a senior dog, from some of her night time anxieties. She could actually sleep instead of pacing and panting (she is on pain pills for severe arthritis too), in turn I got to sleep too. First order was May 2018.Reordered same thing, or so I thought, through the reorder link on my Amazon's previous order and received them Aug 4, 2018. Turns out the flavor was changed without some notice to chicken. My dog would not eat these, at first. I was going to request an exchange if Strawfield still offered the bacon flavor, I didn't request it through Amazon but through Strawfield's website so I don't know if they received my email. In the meantime, after some prodding and wasting several of the Chicken flavored ones, my dog finally started to accept them. They still work well for her, actually seems even more so, not sure why. She is 13 years old, 46 lbs and only needs to take two (was the same with the bacon flavored), instead of three. Three will make her very drowsy and more unstable on her arthritic joints. So I do recommend them, just note the flavor change for those who have previously purchased and that, for some reason these chicken flavored ones smell worse than the bacon flavored did. I understand Valerian root stinks like sweaty socks because I use Valerian capsules once in awhile when I have trouble falling asleep, but that's not what it smells like. Possibly, they overcompensated with something trying to mask it.Strawfield, why not offer both flavors?

My dogs don't like them
First of all, the product arrived right on time, and was well packaged. The only reason for 4 stars is my dogs do not like them. I have 4 dogs. A mastiff/Labrador mix; a PitBull mix; a chihuahua mix and a pug mix. All sizes and breed combinations!!! The only one who would even begin to eat it was the pug mix and he is the one who needed it the least!!! The PitBull mix and the Chihuahua mix are my high strung, full of energy dogs.I was disappointed, but, after thinking things through, I decided to crumble the treats up in their food. The chews are soft and it was easy to do. It worked great. As long as I get them almost to a powder they do not even realize that it is there. I can tell a difference in both dogs (I am only giving it to the Pit Bull and Chihuahua).I would recommend these chews as a good value to try if you have dog that is hyperactive or has anxiety issues. Just remember to try crumbling them up if they don't like the flavor. I do plan on ordering them again.

Keep moving on
This didn’t help even a little bit to calm my dogs. If I knew I could have returned it I would have. What a waste of my money.

Quick response, gentle on tummy!
I am thoroughly impressed with the effectiveness of this product! My 13 lb Schnoodle has always been prone to anxiety, presenting this through crying, fussing, endless barking, shaking, and restlessness. After unsuccessful trials with pheromone collars, our veterinarian suggested trying this type of chew. We did some research, and we decided to use Strawfield's Calming Soft Chews because of the percentage of tryptophan and other nutritional ingredients.I saw a difference the very first day! He was more relaxed, he settled down quickly, and he was able to spend some quality time getting cuddles! We have stuck with a 2-chew per day regimen since then, and we are so thrilled to report that he is enjoying his days instead of reacting negatively to outside stimulation. Now we can get back to the important stuff, like playing with our stuffed toys and keeping watch over the house.

Calmer
I would say that these have help our dogs during inclement weather. They do are calmer and one of our dogs has stopped shaking when the thunder rolls through. I know they say to give it to them in advance, but here it is hard to tell when a thunder storm will roll through, so we give it to them when it is approaching or during and it seem to work well for our dogs.

Good flavor
The dog rates these very tasty. Comes right over and is eager to eat them. As to whether they calm her or not - it is too soon to tell. It does not make much difference so far as I can see. No 20 minute calm for my dog; she still eagerly, exuberantly greets guests. Goal was to calm her down so she doesn't hurt her injured leg more than it is.

my dog did not like the smell of the item
I was beyond excited to receive this item, because my dog really needed something to calm him down. Well, my dog did not like the smell of the item. The first day we had to grind the chews into some steak meat that I had. That is the only way he will eat the chews. I think the Valerian root in the chews are overpowering to him. The Valerian root is stronger than the bacon flavor in the chews. The chews are okay. I can really tell a difference in his behavior. He is more calm, and does not bark as much.

Best Treats for an Anxious Bulldog
The media could not be loaded. I love these soft chew so much. I was pleasantly surprised at how big the container is! We have a 9 yr old english bulldog who is sometimes anxious and stressed for no obvious reason. During Hurricane Irma she was very scared, I gave her one of these turned on calming music and she was fine. In a scary situation it was so comforting to know she was okay. We just found out she has cancer and we will only have about a year longer with her. The vet let us know that she may seem more tired some days or even more anxious and stressed, we have already seen that starting to take place and these soft chews have been a blessing.
