works great with a strong cat5 cable.
I've had trouble with HDMI over Cat5 in the past and had some initial trouble with this device. I tested the cat5 cable which checked out fine but was still getting an annoying error. After using a different cable, it worked like a champ(instantly) I didn't need to reset anything. It just worked. If you're having trouble with this device it's probably due to a weak cat5 cable which will be almost impossible to diagnose. Good luck.

Works Great; Does what it's advertised to do
Not surprisingly, I got this to go along with a Tripp Lite B126-004 4-Port HDMI Over Cat5 Extender/Splitter TAA/GSA (Black ). Like I said in that review, this combo does exactly what's advertised... that is, it sends a single HDMI source to multiple remote TVs using a single CAT5 cable to each TV. This allows you to go much further than straight HDMI (I think both of my TV's are around 50 cable feet away from the source).Update 13-Jun-2014: I just ran into the issue I've seen posted from another reviewer where the unit simply would not work due to the fact that the TV not providing power on its HDMI port. Fortunately I had an active unit available that I purchased for a future project so I was able to use that instead, but it was really disappointing to have this unit not work. I did remove one star from my rating due to this issue.

Expensive units that fail over time, and are highly unreliable performance-wise.
A few years ago I built a household HDMI distribution system using 3 x B126-004s, 1 x B126-002, 1 x B126-1A0 and 8 B126-1P0s. These components were very expensive, and they have been completely unreliable. Over time they all started failing, often the power adapter first. Yet when I contacted Tripp Lite about replacing just the adapter, they entirely unhelpful, even though with it's screw connection, it's not generically available.Furthermore, the system was extremely sensitive, sometimes working and sometimes not, and it seemed highly vulnerable to noise. Moving the Tripp Lite units closer (or sometimes further) from active equipment/cables would incapacitate them. If the Cat5 run between the TX and RX was too short OR too long, it didn't work. It seemed like the signal strength had to be just perfect, even when the adjustable/active RX was used. Also, 1080p was extra flaky, compared to 720p transmissions. Many other reviewers report similar fails.Thankfully an alternative is now available that is far less expensive, highly reliable, and seemingly immune to both cable length and noise! I gutted the horribly expensive Tripp Lite fail, and replaced it with the Movcle 1 to 4 HDMI Splitter ($22) and some AGPtek 60m HDMI Network Extenders ($36 for TX and RX). Hallelujah! Totally pleased, although I still have the second mortgage for the replaced Tripp Lite components.Ken (Heather's husband, Ph.D. EE)

Works great!
This replaces an older dongle and works perfectly.

As described
Doesn't add a Cat 5 connection to a TV without the capability. Had to send it back

No power source required makes this a great option!
Works well with shorter Cat 6 runs (less than 50'). Like the option of not requiring a power source. Over 50' the signal is lost. Don't forget the distance measurement includes any patch cables.
