Life in a holy Shiite city in Iran
Arion Golmakani tells a personal tale that is far more than a personal narrative. This is a true portrayal of a society and culture that shows its true colors behind the veneers of the dogmas of mercy, compassion and beautiful religious enterprises. The author takes us on a journey to what is really happening behind the Potamkin village that is his birthplace. The translator is to be commended for a magnificent translation.

Great book
I just finished this book and I feel my heart can not beating. It is about 3 hours that I am thinking about this book and it has an impressive effect on my mind. I am so proud of Mr. Golmakani for his efforts an achievements. The book is a real story and cannot stop reading. I finished it very soon. Although I expected the author tells more about his life after immigrating which explained in a very short chapter (such as, his studying, his marriage, his job, and child and so on), totally, I loved reading this book and going to order a Persian and english version for gift.Good job Mr. Golmakani and Mrs. Hamedi.

Awesome book. Excellent translation. I could not put it down when I received it. It is so touching and real. I finished it within ten hours. I recommend it to every Iranian all around the world. I will absolutely go back to it several times. As a therapist, it will help me in my work. Viva Arion!

Gift
I bought the book as a gift for my mother. It was rather funny because she was like a child and would ask me about where the book is everyday it came in. When it finally came in I didn't see her ever without the book for 2 weeks straight. She loved it and she even reread the book again.

I strongly recommend this book to philanthropists
I love it because it reviews contemporary history of 50 years ago in Iran, social and cultural condition, and comparison the cultures between three different areas in Iran (Mashad, Tehran, Abadan).Very powerful description of the misery and hard situation that a young kid can face in a poor family(poverty is the worst harshness) And also good ending which shows that you can reach your goals through real desires.

astounding
I read the English version first and then in Persian, but I liked the English version more. Contacted the writer who kindly returned my email and invited me for a coffee which unfortunately I had to turn down as it's not economical to travel from Belgium to the US to drink a coffee :) A very kind gentleman who has kindly shared the heart-burning life story he has had to prove the power of good will and resilience he has had, which have saved him through his journey in the world. I would really like to spend more time with the writer and the book. IT's THE one book which has placed itself on top of my best-10.
