The intimacy between them π
This book has my heart β€οΈ, it's so pure and simple I just love it. When I said simple I meant the love between the characters. But the story is legit epic. One of the best epic fantasy novel I read.

Absolutely worth the read!
I had come to know of this book via Instagram and had to wait a lot even to pre-order it π₯². This book totally lived up to my expectations and I had a great time reading it. I personally loved the writing style and it was an easy read. To be frank it was a breath of fresh air in fantasy novels for me and the South-Asian inspirations really made me happy. Looking forward to reading book two.

One of the Best books of 2023
This book was a rollercoaster. I had no trouble getting into the story as I love being thrust into the middle of the events and figuring out what exactly is going on. The representation of India through the kingdom of Ravence is done so beautifully and magically that it makes me see everything around me in a new light and perspective (so far as to make me want to wear a lehenga to my college just to be badass like Elena). I hadn't read the Boy with fire or even heard much about it but as soon as I saw the author's promotions for The Phoenix King I knew I had to give it a try because even though normally I'm iffy about a book whose promotions I mainly see done by the author I'm glad I gave this one a chance.Aparna Verma's writing style and the way she entraps you with her words in the story is phenomenal. As an aspiring author myself I take great inspiration from this book and it's writing. It took me quite a while to finish this book because of the long chapters and the tiny font but I also got to stretch it out because I didn't want the story to end.The characters are so well written and interesting in the sense we know that nobody in this book is hundred percent good or bad. They're just humans going through life and grief. Joy and death. They make you want to know them more and understand their motives. The twist at the end was something that had my jaw dropping in an amazing kind of a way.The best thing I loved about this book was the number of mentions about food in it. Like pav bhaji, jalebi, aloo chat. It makes you hungry both for actual food and the story.I cannot wait for the next two books to come out, and I wish that this series gets the global recognition it deserves.

An Indian inspired fantasy filled with intrigue, magic and complex characters!ππ‘οΈ
"To be forgiven, one must be burned."-Aparna Verma, The Phoenix KingThe Ravani kingdom has been ruled by the Ravence bloodline, who can command fire, since it was established. A new chapter in the kingdom is starting soon with the upcoming coronation of their heir, Elena Aadya Ravence. However, Elena cannot yet command fire and with political conflicts inside and outside the kingdom, Elena has a lot to prove to the kingdom and to her father, King Leo. What she doesn't anticipate is the arrival of Yassen Knight, an assassin who is known to be cohorts with one of their enemies, now a part of her Royal guard having sworn his loyalty to Ravence. But with war looming all around Ravence, Elena must make sure that her kingdom is safe from outside forces and the inside forces threatening to tear the king apart. The Phoenix King is an Indian inspired fantasy the surpassed all my expectations! It was filled with intrigue, cutthroat politics, war, loyalty, betrayal and the promise of so much more in the upcoming books. The world building was brilliant and very well expanded. The magic system was unique and well layered. I loved how the author built all of it upon Indian myths and culture. As an Indian reader, it filled my heart with so much happiness just seeing so many parts of my culture embedded within the plot. The book was very politically heavy. The constant tension and the very high stakes kept me hooked. Elena was a stunning protagonist with so much strength and power. I am so invested to see her take charge more and more as the story progresses. Elena and Yassen's chemistry was palpable and I loved the subtle moments between the two. Special shoutout to the bollywood inspired moments between the two that gave me lifeππ€π»And the way the book ended had me completely shocked. I did not see the plot twist coming and I am so excited to see how things unravel in the next book that I am just hoping comes out soon!πA new favourite fantasy book that I cannot wait to see everyone read and love! πThank you so much @hachette_india for sending this my way π₯°π₯°
