Ghost Stories: Stephen Fry's Definitive Collection

An absolute joy!
I adored everything about this audio book! The combination of ghost stories and the wonderful Stephen Fry was an absolute must for me. Mr Fry once again proves that he is a master narrator. He uses his superb acting skills and lovely voice to great dramatic effect, which was only enhanced by the spooky sound effects and music. He's selected some excellent stories. I was particularly delighted by the inclusion of Algernon Blackwood, who is one of my favourite authors and who I feel often gets overlooked. Enormous justice was done to his amazing story, The Empty House. The final story is Bram Stoker's The Judge's House, which has to be one of the creepiest short stories ever written and is, in my opinion, the crowning glory of this recording. The narration and sound effects combine to create an intense and very spooky atmosphere that had me gripped. I was also delighted that MR James's Lost Hearts was selected for inclusion here rather than one of his more well known stories as it is really quite terrifying. I can't recommend this collection enough and will be listening to it over and over throughout the spooky season and the depths of winter. Please, Mr Fry, make another of these collections! I loved it!

Brilliant audiobook
Stephen fry could narrate my utility bills and make it more interesting. He had a way of drawing the reader in. With added sound effects I was definitely left spooked after listening to a couple of these.

Ghost stories?
I was disappointed with this. I found the stories bland

Stephen Fry makes this story his own.
Who can resist the silky smoothness of Stephen Fry's voice? His perfect pronunciation and mellow voice are great for these ghost stories, which are timeless classics that send a chill through your bones. A good collection of yarns for bedtime, but don't have nightmares!

Fry is frighteningly good...but
I love a Stephen Fry audio book- they're a genre in themselves! What I don't like is when it is decided to detract from his dulcet tones with the overuse of ridiculous sound effects. Why? It really spoilt my enjoyment of this audio book and has ensured that I will be using the 'sample' for future Fry audios - something that I never thought I would say.
