The Wizard of Oz Crochet Paperback – November 19, 2013

I wish I could find more kits like this one. Or even instructional booklets! This kit is wonderful, it contains all the yarn you need to create 2 of the Wizard of Oz characters and even includes the correct size crochet hook! Somehow I didn't notice that when I purchased this kit, but thought how absolutely wonderful that is for someone who it trying to crochet with smaller yarns/threads and isn't sure about steel crochet hook sizes. I hope that Kristen develops more kits like this! I have seen some instructional books for making famous English characters from history, and another one for the same only Scottish characters. But they were for knitting only and although I can knit also, I much prefer to crochet figures like this as I think they look better when finished. And I do prefer crochet now in my retired years. So Kristen Rask, hint hint! I would purchase any future character books you develop, and I don't mind providing my own yarn and hooks. GREAT kit!!!!!

I am an avid Wizard of Oz fan and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this. It is just so stinkin' cute.There are patterns for 12 characters in the booklet that comes in this kit...although you only get the yarn to make the Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion. It also comes with a crochet hook...even though most crocheters have their own hooks it's a nice added perk.If you have an Oz fan in the family that also crochets they will be over the moon with this gift. Even though I purchased it for myself I know it would have made a perfect gift for me!

I had a little trouble with the witch of the west, there is a spot on the beginning increases that is a little confusing, but I got her figured out. All in all, it is a great pattern set and I love it!

I bought this to make some Wizard of Oz characters for a gal at work who is obsessed with Wizard of Oz. Not only did she love it, I keep getting requests to make other things for other people. The patters are really easy to follow. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it should be spiral bound. The book will NOT stay open for anything. I have to use a binding clip on either side to read the pattern and to keep the book from closing on me. When crocheting, you kinda need both hands, so a spiral bound would have made this a lot easier.I originally rated this with 4 stars because the kit was such a wonderful idea, however I am re rating this 1 star. There are so many errors. Even if you are an experienced crocheter you still spend so much more time trying to correct the mistakes. This defeats the purpose of purchasing patterns. I would NOT recommend this product. Go to etsy and see if you can get the pattern from someone there. I am throwing this horrible book out. Every pattern has numerous errors. Not worth the $$ or the frustration.

Unless you want to drive yourself crazy, I woudn't suggest buying this kit. First, let me put out there immediately that there is enough yarn for two characters (Tin Man and Cowardly Lion). This is not advertised enough. I had a little yarn after Tin Man, but was counting inches to finish the Lion. I downloaded the Errata sheet for the Lion on ThunderBay's page, since there are so many mistakes in the book, but lo and behold, the errata has enough errors to make you nuts. The important thing is to count your stiches, becuase the final number is what you need. The math that went into the pattern is horrible!...makes me think the author didn't make the characters, just wrote down something someone told them or tried to count/guess stitches on a completed doll. There is one line where you're supposed to decerease by 2 or so stiches. The instructions tell you to increase every other stitch, decrease ever other stitch to come out to...exactly the same number of stiches if you just single crocheted in every stitch! WTH?! The finishing instructions are poor, too. So, if you're new to this craft, Google crochet finishing techniques to help things go more smoothly. I have been doing crochet for at least ten years, and I don't think I've ever been so grumpy on a project. I will be debating with care, whether I'm willing to lose more sanity to complete the characters/book.

Very cute book. It's very small though. I'm assuming the large amount of packaging is because of the yarn. They give you enough yarn to make two characters: the lion and the tin man. Twinkie Chan is one of the writers and I really like her work. This is great for a Wizard of Oz fan.

I have just received this in the mail 2 days ago and already made the Tin Man. His pattern was well written and understandable and he turned out great. I am starting on the Cowardly Lion and have already noticed issues with the first part of the pattern... I am an experienced crocheter so I can probably work through it and make it turn out like it's supposed to. However a beginning crocheter or may have some problems figuring out where it went wrong or why their numbers aren't adding up. I do like that it is a kit and you can get started on two of the characters right away. I also like the fact that both of the Wicked Witches are included. It is a great little book with a lot of great ideas and inspiration and all of the patterns are by different artists. Amazon has it labeled as a hardcover but it is not ( in case you were wondering). Overall I gave it 4 stars because I love the book and all of the characters and the fact that it includes 12 of them instead of only the main 4 or 5... it only loses a star for having some issues with the patterns. I would still recommend the book even if you are a beginner because you won't be a beginner forever and after some practice with other things you can come back to this and know how to work it out properly. :-)

Love this kit. This kit is NOT for beginners. There are many pictures and instructions to help you crochet the characters. If you are familiar with Amigurumi -- you will not have any problems.

I am a newly at crochet. I found it difficult to follow the pattern.

Can't wait to get started. I like these kits a lot x

Petit livre facile à traduire si peut que l on a un dico près de soit personnages très facile à réaliser par contre pour le prix il ne faut pas s attendre a avoir toute la laine et les accessoires indispensables à la réalisation des 12 personnages par contre on a un crochet de bonne qualité 4 yeux avec sécurité un aiguille à coudre de la feutrine un petit morceau du fil de 2 couleurs et de la laine mais pas asser c'est pour cela que je ne peu mettre plus de 4 étoiles sur 5?
