Toyota RAV4 1996 thru 2010: 1996 thru 2010 (Haynes Repair Manual) Paperback – August 1, 2011

I have boughten a Haynes Repair Manual book for every car that I have owned. Even though I'm a simple do-it-yourself person, not a super mechhanic who's going to rip apart a transmission etc, this book is a must have book. It's simple and shows you where this is at and that is at, eliminates the guesswork. Spend the $20 and buy the book, you wont be sorry.

This is your typical Haynes Repair Manual with information required to perform normal maintenance and also perform those larger repair tasks of a shade-tree mechanic. For some reason you cannot get this from places like Auto Zone, but thank goodness for Amazon.

I bought this manual to help me do some body repairs on a 2003 Rav4. I had originally seen some pages online that had nice diagrams of the front of the car being taken apart.Pros:This manual covers almost everything. It has some nice details of different parts of the car, and typically has step by step instructions for basic repairs.Cons:The manual covers a lot of different Rav4 years. The actual Rav4 has changed a lot between 1996 and 2010, and the Haynes manual has dealt with this by adding paragraphs to describe how do remove a part on a specific model.However, haynes also seems to have removed some pictures to make room for information on more models. They might have a picture for taking apart part of a 1996 model Rav4 but not the same picture of a 2003.I found this especially frustrating as Haynes also has an online presence. A simple solution would be to provide the extra details online once you have purchased a paper manual.

This manual is probably fine for those that need it for a pre 2006 model. It appears that Haynes did a quick edit on an old manual to add the 3rd generation RAV4 model. Almost all the illustrations are 1996 to 2005. Many of the instructions are either incomplete or wrong (especially for the V6 model). Haynes should make a new manual that focus's on the 2006 and above models as they are completely different than the 2005 and earlier models.

This book has saved me hundreds of dollars. If you have the aptitude to service your own car then you need this guide.

It was the first time I did a procedure on my car. The book helped me a lot, But I also need to use youtube to see a video and better understanding... but the book then adds more details.

I was very pleased with my shipment. I was looking for this book all over and finally found it throu you. It took a little longer than I expected but I got it.

I have not used the book yet, but in skimming through it, it seems to be pretty thorough. It is a good purchase for the money and came in right on time.

If you're a regular owner looking to do a few basic things on your RAV4 (battery changes, spark plugs, and oil changes, etc) this intense and heavily detailed and mechanic-intricate How To manual will guide you nicely. But unless you are actually trained in some degree in automotive maintenance, most of what is outlined ( in clinical automative detail, I might add) will just be way beyond the maintenance skills of a basic car owner. In short, this is an industry manual. Furthermore, the pictures offered, while plentiful and helpful to a mechanic, are not offered in a complete step-by-step pictorial that an amateur would definitely need to do any serious engine work. And as the book is printed in a kind of newsprint, the image detail is not exactly medical text book paper high-Def. LOL.Still, having said all that, the book is an invaluable READ-ONLY reference that'll help you understand the parts, locations of, and inner workings of your RAV4 engine even if you're not going to be able to take out a scalpel and operate to any major degree. So at the very least the book gets you up to speed in a knowledge capacity so that the next time you go to a mechanic you'll at least know parts of your engine (over and under) and be able to converse with him/her in their own language so that you don't sound like a little old lady holding a poodle.
