it should fit into a standard 4" opening, it has the same flange front and 4" step in the back as a halogen "Capsulelight" It does stick out more in the back than the regular bulb.

It says it is a flood light. I am looking for a super-high-intensity narrow spot light beam, about 10 degrees. That is what are used for aircraft LANDING lights. Taxi lights have a beam that is 20 to 40 degrees wide, or more, typically called a 'flood' light. Spot makes a little super-bright 'spot' of light. 'Flood' lights flood the whole area with less-bright light. That is what we use for taxiing an airplane. (Buck Steele, pilot and experimental aircraft builder)
