Leaves you with a warm feeling.
Much, much better than Barker's other later work, Magnificent Evans (that absolutely lacks any soul). At first it really got on my nerves that there are some noticeable continuity and credibility problems (Sometimes Clarence seems to see absolutely nothing but then again notices things he would never be able to see with his eyesight. Also, even a person with such a bad eyesight would notice when he has something very wrong in its hand, like empty sieve vs vessel full of water, etc. etc.). But if you can put this aside after a while, it really turns into something really comforting and warm. The chemistry between Tewson and Barker has always been so positive, and it's even more present here. Incidentally, the eyes have been always such an instrumental part of Barker's on-screen personality, having them completely hidden behind those bottle-bottom glasses gives him even more like a whole new personality, very different from those flamboyant types he usually played.

A real tonic!
Clarence, starring and penned by Ronnie Barker, is a wonderfully quaint and gentle comedy, set in 1937) about a cheerful and elderly (and short-sighted) removals man who begins courting a kindly middle-aged maid (played by Josephine Tewson). Soon after meeting the pair move to a cottage in the countryside to see how thing go, along with a few funny scrapes in between, before they finally commit to tying the knot. This series is a real tonic that never fails to lighten my mood and the scenic English countryside is a joy to behold. It is a shame they only made one series, but this was only because Ronnie Barker had decided to retire from show business after making this.

The funniest!
Clarence is by far the best comedy series made by Ronnie Barker - it seems to have been forgotten but, in my view, it overtakes Open All Hours etc. by miles. Josephine Tewson is the perfect foil for Ronnie Barker - an unforgettable duo!

A must for your comedy collection
Absolute classic from one of the greatest comedians. Clarence is one of the lesser shown series from Ronnie Barker and is absolutely hilarious with a great storyline too.

An under-rated series
A true short masterpiece starring Ronnie Barker and Josephine Tewson. Whilst episode one was a little slow, all other episodes were marvellous. A pity there was only one series made. Well worth watching over and over again.

Brilliant
Brought this as a christmas gift for my mother- she loved it! Ronnie Barker is hilarious as always and even I enjoyed it and I am from a different generation. Comedies like this are gold and so much better then a lot of the trash out there today. Wish there had been more series really.

Somewhat disappointed with this series
I found this series a bit disappointing and thought I had originally watched it in the late 1970's but in fact its dated 1987, series is written by Ronnie Barker (alias Bob Ferris)
