Fantastically hand painted, our Viking and Celt warriors battle it out in full colour. It’s rare to see a themed chess set with such brilliant detail as this Celtic and Viking Chess Set, with its intricate Celtic Cross and Viking Longship castles the perfect example. Moulded from crushed stone, every chess piece is made with exceptional care, a fact reflected in the quality of design. The aforementioned castles make for a stunning rear-guard, while the knights are matched on either side in silhouette. Their detail, though, differs, with the Viking warrior chief, Brodar, fighting on the dark side, and Retainer of Nurchadh Duncan O’Hartugan stationed on the white side. Next to him is his elder Murchadh, Prince of Erinn, son of King Brian, who plays the part of bishop in this themed chess set. Opposite Murchadh is the Viking Earl of Orkney, Sigard the Stout. In the royal grounds are Sihtric Silkbeard and his Viking noblewoman, facing off against King Brian Boru and his wife Gormlaith. Protecting the royals on the frontline are the Celtic warriors, equipped with a long sword and shield, and the Viking Foot Soldiers with their infamous axes. Every piece boasts its own unique look that gives this set real character on the board, something other themed chess sets often fail to achieve.
