Really enjoyable read
I was really looking forward to reading this book, and I’m glad that I did. It’s the first supernatural book I’ve ever read and I really enjoyed it. This is also the first book I’ve read by Simone St. James. I really loved how it was written over two time periods, sometimes in books this can be confusing but it was split up into chapters which made it easy to follow. I loved that the chapter were also short throughout the story as I’m not fused on long chapters. Really liked the characters in this book and the murder mystery element. The only thing I wish is that it was just that little bit more creepier with a bit more suspense. I don’t think this author or this book gets talked about enough, highly recommend this book.

A little bit of everything
That was great. Loved all the characters. Ghosts, murders, creepiness, mystery, wee bit of romance, some excellent girlfriends. The times shift between past and present were so well done and the ending didn't feel rushed. Very satifying

Started off good but fizzled out
Really looked forward to reading this. I was expecting some kind of Shining inspired mystery in which the Sun Down Motel became as much a major character as the cast, and while it started off that way it very quickly fizzled out. Don't get me wrong, the story was fine (until the end which I think was such a huge cop out). Most of the components were fine. The characters were fine. It was all fine, but nothing more. It could have been a good ghost story, or it could have been a good mystery. But by trying to be both things it was okay.

A serial killer, a missing girl and an unquiet ghost.
Set across two timelines, this is a good mystery with a supernatural edge.Cally did not meet her aunt Viv because Viv disappeared in 1982. Consumed by grief, Cally’s mother never mentioned her missing sister, and Cally knew not to ask. But now that Cally’s mother has died, Cally decides the time is right to get answers. She goes to the Sun Down Motel, a rundown establishment on the edge of a town in the middle of nowhere and the last place Viv was seen. The twenty-year-old vanished after working a night shift on reception, leaving behind her cash, keys and car.Cally also takes a job on the nightshift and discovers that even though few living guests check in, the dead are permanent and unsettled residents. The second timeline takes us back to Viv’s point of view. The spirits are just as restless and terrifying during Viv’s shifts at Sun Down and she has a sickening feeling she knows why. Despite putting herself in danger, she tracks one of the living motel guests, convinced he’s a serial killer.I read the pages quickly to find out what happened to Viv and whether the same fate would befall her niece Cally 35 years later. Terrific stuff.

Haunting Time Lines
Well written and clever how all events were linked together. A nice holiday read.

If You're Thinking Of Staying - Be Warned!
Be careful!Be very careful! If you put one foot inside these pages there's no telling what will happen. You could face all manner of creepy twists and turns as you sign in at theSun Down Motel. There'll be no time for regrets....too late...you're hooked!Poor Aunt Viv.....she worked the office there back in 1982, and suddenlydisappeared!Fast forward 35 years, and her niece, Carly Kirk, decides to investigate heraunt's disappearance, ending up doing the exact same job, as receptionistat the Motel.Things haven't changed much in all those years - the same creepy happenings, the same mind-numbing characters, popping in and out of the various rooms.Don't take my word for it - just walk straight in and register - you'll see, andyou'll know.Reminds me a bit of the Bates Motel in Psycho, except the scary bit there wasmainly the House on the hill; here there's a hell of a difference - trouble is ALLinside that nightmare Motel!Does Carly find the answer to her aunt's disappearance? The bigger question is- will you stay around long enough to find out?

Interesting mystery with flawed writing
The story intrigued me and the book is an easy read with short chapters. I read it in two sittings. The writing style irritated me a bit because it felt as if it was directed at a very young audience with awkward descriptions around sexuality/virginity and what seemed to be an obsession with describing what each character was wearing each time they appeared. The supernatural elements were confirmed as such too soon leaving little to the imagination and it felt like a book of two halves, the first being spooky and atmospheric but the second being more realistic and determined to resolve the plot. I guessed the twist quite early on too.

Abendsonne
Im Jahr 1982 will Viv weg von daheim, nach New York City. Sie landet in Fell upstate New York.
