Excellent book.
I really like her honesty and humility in revealing her personal experiences, thought-life, struggles as well as victories. Learning to give up our "rights" as we see them is an interesting part of her story. How much of my life does Jesus really have when in fact He deserves and died for it all?

Wow
Everyone NEEDS to read this book! I was blown again by Dr. Helen and her life on mission. I have never been so moved and encouraged by someone who is simply reviewing their life and explaining ways Jesus moved in it. I cannot say enough that this is a great read for everyone. Dr. Helen is so open and honest and it's so refreshing. I will definitely be reading more of her books and reading this one again in the future!

A Sufferng Servant
This little woman was a giant walking among us, and we did not know it. The Christian life is not an easy one. She had unimaginable trouble, from gang rape, the country in convulsions, the hospital destroyed in the civil war, illness, friends at home criticizing her for being there and not at home, etc. And yet, God was ordering her life. Who are we to argue with God? It is a good book to read to see what it meant to this woman to have the privilege to suffer because she loved the Lord God.

Deeply convicting
Words can’t express my feelings and thoughts of this medical missionary doctor who worked days and nights without sleep, endured torture, imprisonment and rape by the Africans she came to help, and yet returned once freed to rebuild the hospital she once helped build.

Change from the inside out
We are to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and body. Dr. Helen Roseveare uses her own failings and weaknesses while being a missionary doctor in the Congo during civil war. It is not a how to book. It is an honest testimony of how the Lord used suffering to change her so she could love the Lord as He commanded us. I was greatly convicted and still am. The Holy Spirit is still using it to change me from being self focused , to being God centered and other focused. Well worth the read.

Her honesty so refreshing!!!
If you read this book or hear her speak you will appreciate her honest in questioning God about why a certain thing did or didn't happen or whether or not it should have. You will appreciate her willingness to be transparent about her weaknesses, short comings and down right sinful ways in dealing with people or within the work she had begged God she be worthy to do.She was not worthy or ready for what she asked God to allow her to do. And yet He used her willingness to go.She's also very transparent about the criticisms of those who were her supposed supporters in her work!! They are the stuff of Job's foolish friends!! Much more well acquainted with their own worries and good intentions than God being glorified through this woman and her work very tough conditions!!I so appreciate her honesty in God's dealing with her.You can always tell when this is so because the one whom God is working on is never unable to relate and even identify with the weakness, frailty and sinful tendencies in others. There's no holier than thou talk in this book. Her short-comings and zeal without knowledge are apparent throughout the bookI appreciate it so much!! Thank-you for being so willing to admit your own faults and attitudes even while doing such a great work in Africa!! You're the best!!!

An Example to Follow
Dr. Helen Roseveare lived the life she has described in this and all of her books. She is amazingly honest about her faults and struggles - more than most of us would ever consider - and because of her transparency you will be challenged to rethink how you live your life.

Humbling and inspiring!
This is an amazing testimony of absolute surrender. Wonderful guidance in this book, real examples, and such openness and honesty Helen has given us. I will cherish this book, and read several more times...and prayerfully ask the Lord to show me how to live such a surrendered life myself.
