Lumiweld Kit can be used anywhere to make a strong fused joint [similar to brazing], using only a butane blow lamp as a heat source. It will work on almost any type or grade of aluminium including Dural, Birmabrite [Land Rover bodywork], zinc alloys, Mazak, pot metal and die cast, resulting in a joint stronger than the parent metal. Tried and tested widely in motorcycle magazine workshops, Lumiweld has hundreds of applications for the car restorer too, such as broken carb flanges, thermostat housings, rocker covers, cracked aluminium engine blocks and cylinder heads, etc.Rods Melt at 380c, a lot lower than the melting point of Aluminium(about 600c) Available as pack of 5 or pack of 10 Rods.

can work extremely well
Lumiweld can work extremely well if you understand what it's doing. I've used it several times over the years and it is a permanent repair. I've come to think of it as chemical welding. Everything needs to be hot and like soldering you use the heat of the job to melt the rod, then keeping it molten scrape and stir the aluminium into the molten lumiweld using the stainless steel stirring rod provided. The key understanding is that aluminium dissolves into molten lumiweld so keep it hot and stir it in! If the aluminium isn't hot enough and you just melt the lumiweld with the blowtorch it just sits on the surface and can't work. Get the temperature and the stirring right and it works every time. I've used it with complete success on everything from motorcycle castings to Landover panels and it's great. My only criticism is that it's not as easy as the instructions imply, it helps to understand how it works (a combination of heat and chemistry: aluminum dissolves in liquid lumiweld so you have to make that happen for it to work) and it takes a bit of practice. Its clever metallurgy and I wish I'd thought of it. Great product. Buy lots of rods and burn some up getting a feel for it before trying the real repair.

To be avoided at all costs!!!!
This product does NOT work as it says it does. After a weekend playing with this, using different types of aluminium, settings and approaches, i managed to weld a total of ZERO pieces, so onto plan B...Was a professional metalworker, very well experienced in fabricating and welding in aluminium, his verdict after 30 mins of playing?...JUNK...throw it in the bin!Im sorry i wasted my money now, its a product to be avoided at ALL costs!!!
