This necklace is handcrafted from a REAL "Emperor Morpho" Butterfly wing under a large magnified glass cabochon. The butterfly wing is set in a large vintage style antique silver setting with sparkling clear Swarovski crystals. The pendant measures 50x70mm and the chain comes in your choice of short (18") or long (28"). The Emperor Morpho Butterfly, also known as Morpho Peleides, is part of the “Blue Morpho” family and originates from Paraguay. The wings are a brilliant shimmering light blue with black edges. The color in the butterfly's wings is caused by the diffraction of the light from millions of tiny scales on its wings. It uses this to frighten away predators, by flashing its wings rapidly. The Emperor Morpho lives in the rainforest and drinks the juices from tropical fruit such as mango and kiwi. Each piece will arrive in its own organza gift bag or gift box with literature on the species of butterfly! *NOTE* My wings come from butterflies that have been raised on butterfly farms & conservatories and allowed to live their full lifespan, which naturally averages about 2-4 weeks and are then collected and preserved so that their beauty can live on! Butterfly Farming actually helps to preserve rain forests and also assures the survival of natural butterfly habitats. Native people are encouraged to grow plants and raise insects as opposed to clearing land for cash crops.
