Deluxe Large Wood Chicken Coop Backyard Hen House 4-8 Chickens with 3 Nesting Box

I love this coop and so do my chickens! I was afraid it may be small due to the reviews but my 7 chickens fit great in it and seem to love it. They have been together since 1 week old and they’re now 1 1/2 years old - Plymouth Rock, Rhode Island Red, Comets, Black Stars and a Dominant Copper. There first coop was the same length but only half the width so they were crowded. They seem to have plenty of room now.It was a learning curve for them to get up plank but only took a day or 2 - there first coop was very low. They seem to like it higher now.I love the layout - much easier for me to clean. I do suggest buying the stick on tiles for the floor which I needed 9 of the larger ones. The hardware could be sturdier and we did replace with hardware we could lock for predators.My chickens do not use the nesting boxes though. There previous box was on the opposite side so even though I’ve moved their eggs several times they seem to prefer to lay on opposite side and love sleeping in the nesting box area and the back of the coop so I’ve taken out the little dividers and let them do what they want!I love the smell of the cedar wood! My cleaning time is cut in half and as I said my chickens seem to thrive and love it! We do have a very large enclosed run with a tarp over half of the run so I didn’t paint as rain or snow will not be an issue since it’s covered and I loved the wood! However if you don’t have it covered I would suggest giving it a treatment.The set up was very easy. I would definitely buy another one when I enlarge my flock. I just bought an automatic door for times we will be out. It’s definitely shorter than this one but we think it will be easy to just add wood at the top to adjust. The door does seem a little narrow but my chickens have no problem getting in and out and it may be better for keeping out predators. However we devised a “scary machine” which is a motion detector with lights and a fan with ties that makes a loud noise that we plug in at night. So far - in 1 1/2 years we haven’t lost a single one so we think it’s working great!Thank you for the great coop. Love the layout and design and more importantly my chickens do too!

The setting up of the coop is easy. Can be done solo.The sturdiness is decent after it’s put together. Holding the pieces alone you can tell they are not high quality (prefab problems). The wood itself doesn’t feel like something that’s going to withstand harsh climates after a few seasons but it can be somewhat combated with some good exterior paint and regular upkeep from what I can see. Hardware is pretty typical for a prefab coop. If you have little intruders, you’re absolutely going to want to add on something sturdier.Unfortunately, a star is removed. As you can see, the nesting box roof is all bad. There’s a gap between the roof and the coop itself not making this weather proof. Will have to add on weather stripping. The roof itself came with a huge hole. We did repair that with some roof repair silicone. But the side of the roof frame is also cracked which I will have to seal as well.Overall I am satisfied minus the roof. Super inconvenient to have arrived broken. But, customer service gave us a partial refund to do the repairs which is appreciated. They said they could try to source that specific roof piece to replace it IF they could, but we chose the refund instead to not risk it item being damaged again.If you’re on the market for a prefab coop, this will do the job. But be warned, I have seen that the gap is a common issue and it clearly is not so sturdy that the risk of shipping damage is a possibility.Would I buy again? Yes, and only because if it’s damaged I know the company will be communicative and helpful. If they weren’t, absolutely not.

This coop will work for 6-7 chickens. The latches stink they are cheep so we just got some goods ones and used those instead. It was easy to assemble but we reenforced the floor and added some weather stripping to keep drafts out. It’s kinda of thin so this winter we put some straw bales around the bottom to help insulate the floor area and stuffed a lot of straw inside. The girls did fine in there during the cold so I think with a little tweaking it’s a good coop for the price.

This is my first coop, so please take everything I write with a grain of salt. My sister and I are pretty handy so we were able to put this coop together in about an hour. Some parts (the legs) were a little harder to attach, but otherwise, everything was straightforward and it feels fairly sturdy. We painted the coop with exterior paint to help weatherproof it and replaced all of the door latches for better security. We are currently keeping 10 pullets in it with the intention of upgrading them when they get a little older. They are all getting along fairly well, but it's definitely a tight squeeze. We wound up putting it up on cinder blocks so we could fit their feeder underneath and keep it dryer. The only true downsides that I've noticed so far is that the perches are way too low and I wish that the roof had a hinge on it so that we could lift it up and look inside. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it and will probably continue to use it as a grow-out/hospital coop as long as it lasts.
