Loved reading about this man .

I absolutely loved this book. It kept my peak interest. So great learning the Great Smilies National Park. Great job writing this piece of history.

I enjoyed this narrative of the last native of Elkmont's life and times. It provides a good background for anyone interested in the history of The Great Smoky Mountain National Park.

For those of us who love the smoky mountains and it's history, this is a fantastic glimpse into the people who lived there before it was a national park. Having just returned from a week in the park and already missing it terribly, uncle Lem's story warmed my heart. I loved the photos that went along with the wonderful storytelling .

Having spent the first 23 summers of my life camping at Elkmont, this book is like visiting an old and dear friend after decades of distance. From the first word to the last, it is a comprehensively simple story of a man devoted to the beloved mountains he called home. I know only some of what he felt, and yet, that unique area called Elkmont forever shaped my life. Thank you, Mr. McMahon for such a personal and emotional rendering of the man known to generations as Uncle Lem.

Lem was married to my great grandfather's sister, and I knew them both growing up, so this book has a personal touch to it. It captures the heart of his life, his connection to the land, and his determination to live out a life of simplicity. I went with my grandparents many times to their home, bringing back delicious honey and, before she passed, yummy cookies of Aunt Mimmie's. A great read, well written and great pictures.

Wife really enjoyed reading this book

After visiting the Smoky Mountains on vacation recently the book really brought into light how mountain life really was. Uncle Lem led a good life!!!
