I got this to make sure my dog's chip is still active every time I cross the border into Canada.This unit is very fast at detecting the chip, and at a good distance. In fact it is so good, that it's hard to even pinpoint where the chip is. It arrived almost full charge, and the menus and functions were easy to understand. The screen is of sufficient size and bright enough for indoor use. I have not yet tried it outdoors. The beep is not objectionable and can be lowered in volume. It does NOT beep while charging. I have also transferred data via BT (HID Mode) for a single scan and downloaded the entire memory with no problem.

My daughter who lives in an area loaded with stray cats got this first and has been happy with its effectiveness. Where I live we get a few a month and I was always looking for an i.d. tag, calling the owner, usually not getting an answer, faced with a challenge then. Now I love seeing a stray cat or dog so I can assist by calling the chip source for more accurate information and advice. I love the simplicity of this scanner and I think it’s a good value! When scanning, remember to cover the neck all the way to the shoulders. My husband scared me when he said there wasn’t a chip on our pet so I did a more thorough scan area. Whew! It was closer to the space between the shoulder blades.

Both of my dogs are chipped but they have never been scanned and I don’t particularly trust their new vet who forgot to scan them and insists I drive the hr back to have them scan them because “they may not really be chipped.” I decided to order this to preventably know they are just in case they try to lie to me when I go back. Both dogs chips immediately pinged with the serial numbers of the chips that match what I registered. Very easy to use and worked quickly. I great little tool to have one hand.

Bought this to scan random cats that will join my outdoor cat group. Was able to properly scan a few and was lucky to find one with a microchip. The only issue is the beeping noise that startles the cats.

I do dog rescue, so it's important to have a reader that is functional and reliable. This reader is the worst and if I could give it ZERO that would still be too many stars. If agencies or people use this chip reader pets are sadly going to remain lost. If the reader cannot identify that a pet is chipped then finding their home is greatly reduced. Even worse an animal may be chipped and if the reader doesn't read a chip the pet could end up being euthanized rather than being returned home. I have 5 dogs and all are chipped with three different brands of chips (home again, 911 and Fi nano). I tested this reader immediately upon arrival and after being fully charged. The reader was able to produce the chip id code in 3 of my dogs ONCE, then when I tried again it could never find the chip on 2 of the 3 dogs it had previously identified. I know it can read the three different brands of chips, because they all appeared at least once out of more than 20 tries, but non of them were ever detected more than twice with more than 20+ attempts. I then tested the reader on the new chips i have that have not yet been injected on pets and the reader identified 2 chip out of the 23 new chips I tried to scan. I tried to scan my dogs more than 20 times and the success rate of this chip reader in locating a chip in both live dogs and un injected new chips averages about 2 times in 20 tries. This unit is terrible! Buyer beware, it's a cheap mass produced China product, complete junk. The instructions are also in poorly written English and Chinese.

I gifted my local animal sanctuary with a few of these pet Microchip Readers who have been dealing with all the pets and livestock in the California fires and storms. This little tool reunites people with their micro chipped pets and livestock quickly and accurately. Can't say anything better about that. The microchip readers are quick, lightweight and easy to use. It comes with an instruction manual but it's pretty much self-explanatory.
