Me Grimlock...where weapons
Admittedly it seems a little odd and difficult to believe that either Teletran, Ratchet, Wheeljack or whoever/whatever else might have been responsible for designing/redesigning the Dinobots in the various continuities, that they based the Tyrannosaurus Rex model upon by what in modern real-life standards is an outdated concept. But Grimlock simply wouldn’t be Grimlock without his bulky tail dragging on the ground and his somewhat fat bellied, Godzilla like build. Thankfully this ‘Power of the Primes’ version adheres fairly loyally to Grimlock’s original G1 form; as he does in robot mode. However, it could be argued that this Tyrannosaurus Rex form has a tail that is a little fat and that it is a bit wide in the hips. This is probably to accommodate the extra form this version of Grimlock has in being the chest and torso of Volcanicus. I don’t possess the other Dinobot components to their combined form so I can’t say how well this works. He does have an awesome looking head though. This is a great figure but has quite a flaw in that it doesn’t come with any weapons. This is quite a shame as I seem to recall that the original Grimlock game with quite a few that included the sword which he is often portrayed as wielding. He does come with some prime armour that can hold the usual prime master or matrix. Attaching these in robot mode looks fine but in dinosaur mode they attach to his ankles which just looks cumbersome.Grimlock has undergone quite a lot of different looks over the years from the wimpy Pretender version to more modern ideas of Tyrannosaurs. But if you want a traditional looking Grimlock this is a god figure to go for.

Awesome looking figure, but poor accessories!
As an old school Generation 1 fan, the Dinobots are one of my favorite Transformers sub-teams, so I leapt at the chance to pick up Power of the Primes Grimlock. At first glace the figure impresses. He stands at about 6.5" tall, has a decent 'heft' to him, and has a great range of movement and poseability. Visually he looks excellent, and is every part the modern recreation of his traditional Generation 1 cartoon/comic/toy depiction, including a very faithful looking T-Rex mode. The ONLY issue I have with the figure is his accessories.Whilst Grimlock does come with the odd looking 'Prime Master Enigma' doohickey, that kind of looks a little like the creation matrix (and which I've not yet discovered the reason why I should care about it), as well as accessories for the Dinobots combined form (thats right, this version of the Dinobots team will be able to merge into a gestalt form!) which are promoted as 'Dinobot Armour' - but in essence just look like a pair of feet, which is exactly what they are - there is a complete absence of Grimlock's iconic, signature energy sword and blaster, and frankly he's just not quite the real deal without them. All of the other Dinobot figures in the range have their weapons, so its a massive disappointment to discover that Grimlock does not.Despite that, you are still looking at a pretty cool action figure here, and possibly the best recreation of Grimlock (exorbitant Masterpiece versions aside) since the original, and very what is a very reasonable price.
