Discover the ultimate leadership lecture from NFL coaching legend Bill Walsh, featuring exclusive insights and perspective from Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana. Review: Actually very useful - I don't understand the negative reviews that say this is not actually giving guidance..i don't think they've ever looked in it This book is actually structured as an instruction manual in a lot of ways, with actual life experiences this guy had on his way from the bottom to the top of his field He actually gives very good accounts of what he learned and found helps to build your team and achieve goals and at the end of each chapter gives numbered lists of key points to do to try to do things like build a career, build a team, deal with troublemakers, get through difficult times etc etc. I was not expecting this book to be that great after some of the negative reviews and nearly never bought it but after reading it i have found it is one of the best instructional books on the actual USEFUL principles THAT REALLY ACTUALLY HELP when building a career and building teams to achieve your goals that i have seen The guy seems like he had a good heart and was tough but fair and made sure people did things the way he felt it could work. If you are into the American football it would be an interesting read to see how things were behind the scenes on his way from being a college football apprentice coach really and his battles to get to the top of his field. Good on him. He did it. This is an interesting read, it's also really good one just to randomly open a page up and see what it says for a thought for the day or a bit of inspiration when i am feeling stuck. It's a bit like having your own top coach telling you how you can get your day to better for you.. I'm trying rebuild my life right now after really difficult times, if you want to see my progress and me talking about what i find works and what doesn't please check out my Castle Hassall TV channel on YouTube and my music there I'd really appreciate it.. Best wishes to anyone reading this,i hope you have a very good future, from Rolland Review: Excellent read, whatever your reason for reading it, read it. - A fantastic read. As someone who has never been able to take part in sport physically due to multiple disabilities, I enjoy reading intelligently written books on sports management, motivation and team building. This is one of the best I've read. In reading these books I'm doing so because I enjoy them and I often find a little something that helps me personally. Like Bill I have my own 'Standard of Performance' but for me that later parts of the book about his final years at the Niners are currently more poignant. Whatever your reason to read this book whether business-led, sports-led or just personal, read it.

A must read
A great read and great lessons for any aspiring manager. A tale of a true visionary and great leader and the price he paid in his health. While celebrating the fantastic 49`rs team he created this book has many managerial home truths. Well recommended.

Great book on leadership
I have never followed football and did not know about Bill before buyin this book. I bought it to test the idea of whether someone who doesn't support a particular sport can still enjoy and benefit for, such a book or not. I loved it! His style is very easy and catchy. Lots of great lessons to learn about leadership. You don't have to be a football fan to enjoy or benefit for, reading this book. Recommended.

Amazing book on Leadership!
One of the best books I have read on leadership. It reads like a biography but yet like a text book on leadership. Really enjoyed it, brutally honest and compelling.

Slightly worrying individual
Read this to find out what Stuart Lancaster, the new England rugby coach, was getting so excited about. My main conclusion is to worry about the state of his mental health. Walsh comes across as a borderline psycho whose obsession with controlling other people's lives leads him to lose control of his own. It's also badly written and 'edited' with the lightest of touches. You're almost surprised there are no spelling mistakes. But that's all reading between the lines. On the top layer of management-speak fluff there are a few interesting ideas, but more than a few contradicitions. In the opening passages he describes bawling his eyes out after a defeat in Miami. That's not exactly a question of letting the score take care of itself, and it also sits at odds with his description of being in a zen-like state during each game. I've always had my suspicions that Leadership books are a load of old rope rushed out by $$$-hungry publishers and this is a stellar example of it. A regular autobiography of a fascinating sporting life (not mention great NFL team, truly great) would have been more rewarding for all concerned you feel.

As a fairly new rugby coach, I find this book exceptional. I too also read it after reading Stuart Lancaster's autobiography and what I like about it most is that he shares in equal measures what he could have done better as well as what he did well. Delegation for example. Really inspirational, going to read it again and take out references, I was so engrossed in it I didn't really stop to make any notes!

Inspiring book about leadership
Whilst it is about American football there are plenty of analogies with business and leadership. Interesting and thought provoking. Would say that it does repeat itself particularly in the second half of the book Worth a read for any businesses leadership

Love this book. So much can be taken from it even if you are not a 49ers fan. Business, leadership, tactics, people skills, management are all in there.

El libro es recomendado por los emprendedores de y-combinator y es simplemente excelente. Si no vas a meter más que un libro de management lee este. No es sobre fútbol americano, sino como reorganizar una organización con base en liderazgo.

Very interesting story about coaching and managing an NFL team. There were not too many surprises in the book though -- a lot of what the author says is common sense or common wisdom these days. I also think you have to be a sports fan to enjoy this book.
