Berlebach B14091CGEM UNI Wood Tripod for Celestron Mounts (Wood)

I got this when it was on sale. I am very happy with it and the quality is exceptional. It isn't a must have and the stock tripod that comes with a CGEM will work just as well, but there are several convenience features of the Berlebach. First, both tripods weigh the same, but when you fold up the Berlebach, it locks, so it is easier to carry. The single knob on the Berlebach makes it easier to attach/detach and the mount and do azimuth adjustments. Unlike the stock tripod with the accessory tray part of the same attachment. The Berlebach has a level built into the tripod so you don't have to attach the heavy mount before you level the legs. The equipment tray on the Berlebach is solid and could hold a battery (like a power tank size) but I use to put my laptop and tackle box of accessories. It is certainly a nicer tripod, but don't expect it to improve tracking or anything like that. The stock tripod is just as solid, once you get it setup.

Although this is meant for a CGEM Mount, I purchased this with the intention of using with my NexStar 5SE computerized alt-az mount. After fabricating an adapter plate, I was able to easily attach my mount to the tripod. I did have to remove the square profile indexing post, but it was a simple matter as it was only attached with locknut and nut. I did have to install a new bubble level in the adapter plate as the one built into the tripod would be covered by the new adapter plate. The tripod itself is extremely well built and engineered, and it has the fit and finish of a high quality tripod. Index scales are built into the legs to extend them to specific lengths taking the guess work out of adjusting them evenly. The knobs clamp the legs securely assuring stability. I am very happy with this tripod and I’m sure I’ll be using it for decades to come.
