A twisted tragic tale.
Ruth aand Cash are taking a holiday, but Ruth is hiding something. This is actually a job - a job which is fraght with problems. At the beginning of the 20th century, a woman and her small (maybe illegitimate) daughter move to a little Dorset village, living in what used to be a pub. For a time, things go well for them, but aching to be accepted by village soociety, the mother agrees to marry a farm labourer. Bad move. The child (Mary) goes to several neighbours for help, but they send her away, telling her that her parents have her best interests at heart. (Ha! We all know how children make up stories, don't we?). The neighbours' lack of interest in helping her reaps terrible repercussions over the years, but readers won't find this out till later. Fast forward to today and the cottage's new owners want the place cleared of the footsteps and crying noises. Ruth investigates carefully and every fact she finds just raises another question. Finally, with the help of Cash and her team, she does indeed bring a measure of calm into the troubled cottage.

Haunting...couldn't put it down
I loved Psychic Surveys Book One 'The Haunting of Highdown Hall' so have been eagerly awaiting the next in the series. Could 'Rise to Me' be as good? In a word No......it's better! Don't get me wrong, I gave Book One a well-deserved five stars , but for me the darker and more sinister turn that 'Rise to Me' takes makes it even more compelling...I literally stayed up all night to finish this (OK, I admit it, I also didn't want to fall asleep - in the dark - in case...well, let's just say that Shani Struther's writing certainly fires the imagination!)It was great to meet Ruby et al again, and also to have so much more insight into Ruby's mother - Jessica - life, which impacts so greatly on Ruby..and not necessarily in a good way!. The story had me gripped from the opening chapter - it seriously spooked me...but then I like a good scare. And this is a GOOD scare...well researched, accessible writing with a brilliant plot, great pace and totally believable characters - alive...and err...dead! In fact 'good' doesn't cut it...'Rise to Me' is brilliant. I can't wait for Book Three!

Delve into the darkness...
Rise to me is the second book in the psychic surveys series. In the first book we met Ruby and her team that make up psychic surveys. There were teasers in there that come to light in this one. It focuses on Ruby and her family, in particular her mother Jessica, whom we know has suffered for most of Rubys life. Now, I loved Highdown Hall and rated it 5 stars. Could this one live up to it? Seeing how high the bar was set. Well, let me tell you, yes, it did. In fact, if I’m being completely honest (which I do try to be) Rise to me surpassed it! This one was so much darker and far more sinister. The atmosphere that Shani created was creepy, tense, and eerie. Guaranteed to get those nerve endings tingling and your hairs on the back of your neck standing to attention. Freaking awesome! In this one we find out a lot more about the characters and their back stories, what made Ruby who she is today. What has been following her in the shadows since she was a child. It is time for Ruby to confront her past and her Demons….The tone of this being what it is, is perfect for the journey we are taken on. Shani has a gift for writing this sort of thing and immersing the reader into the story. I felt real empathy with the people involved in this, and found my heart racing at certain points. This story touches on a lot of subjects relating to the paranormal/supernatural including spiritualism & the occult. What I particularly loved personally was the amount of depth that was involved. It is clear the author knows exactly what she’s talking about. There was no unnecessary “fluffing”. Shani has the ability to almost lull us. It’s all happy go lucky one moment and the next you’re in total despair! Absolute stroke of genius. Talk about messing with your head!I have done a lot of research on this subject/s myself over the years, and I found I could completely understand everything Shani had included in the novel. THIS is how I can tell the author knows her stuff, clearly a lot of research has been done in order to produce something of such a high standard.I thoroughly enjoyed this story, just in case it wasn’t obvious to you. The plot development was excellent and it left me looking forward to reading more and wanting to know more about the individuals involved. Bringing Jed, the ghost dog, into it had the benefit of adding a touch of a more light hearted nature. He appears at just the right time, every time. I thought this was a special touch by the author and works well.I listened to this on audible whilst I was at work and it was the perfect accompaniment. I work in a Manor house that is centuries old, about 600 years old, and i’m on my own. Hence the audible books. This was brilliantly narrated, really gave the extra dimension to the story and brought it to life. Obviously I have the book as well as it will need reading again. But whichever way you choose to devour this novel, I guarantee you wont be disappointed.

A darker tale
This is the second book in the Psychic Surveys series and an altogether more sinister story. It has that the crawly, creepiness that makes the back of your neck tingle. I made the mistake of reading parts when alone in the evening. I won't be doing that again!Ruby and the gang must fight an age old evil that just won't leave her alone. Ruby shines and it's drawn to her. It's been lurking in the shadows a long time and Ruby must go into battle. Luckily she has an amazing group of people who love her...and one loyal spirit whos a faithful dog...or is he? You also get to learn more of Ruby's mum's history which tied some loose ends nicely.Once again Shani Struthers has delivered an entaintaining , down right scary tale. On to book three!

great supernatural horror story...
The opening prologue of this stunningly unusual second book in the series, instantly grabs you by the throat. We meet Ruby, a young psychic child, one already well used to communicating with spirits, finding herself confronted with one who is not human or ever was.Fast-forward 18 years and Ruby now runs a successful domestic spiritual clearance business, called Psychic Surveys, using psychic detection to solve old crimes. In the course of her job, she encounters an angry ghost and tries to help it move on, but this turns out to be no ordinary haunting. Usually good at her job, she finds herself confronted by something very unexpected. Something she may not be able to do anything about, as something from her past comes back to haunt her.On a lighter note, all psychics have a spirit guide, and Ruby’s is far from ordinary. Hilariously different and fiercely protective, Ruby’s guide is a dog called Jed.This book has everything. Well written with very believable characters.A nightmare ending, brilliantly suspenseful and gripping.I enjoyed reading it immensely.

Disappointed
Well, I got through it, hoping that it would improve, it didn't. Having thoroughly enjoyed book one I found this one very hard to get through. Gonna try book three now and see if it's worth plodding on.

Okay, but not this author's best in my opinion
The author is a talented writer, and the plot isn't terrible, but I don't think I like the Psychic Survey books as much as her Haunted World books. The Psychic Survey books remind me a little of Wendy Wang's Witches of Palmetto Point books, which I also don't care for much. This book in particular started to drag a bit and I was happy to finally finish it.

Riveting Paranormal Horror Mystery
Riveting and interesting paranormal and psychological tale with an element of horror mixed into it. There are also heartwarming and loyal friendship and romance. It's very fascinating to get a glimpse into the professional life and work as well as challenges and rewards of psychic and paranormal surveys and investigations. This book is a degree darker than the previous book in this series. But well worth it. Heartily recommended.

Refreshingly engaging
This story was really well written and it's obvious that Shani did her homework when writing it. The story had my attention until I finished it. Very engaging story with perhaps some hidden gems in the guise of fiction. I don't often read about tulpas, shapeshifters (not the genre created kind), and thought forms, in fiction books. So it was really refreshing to have someone use what's been well written about historically, to write a plausible story (at least to those who are familiar with the subjects) I'd recommend this book for anyone who is interested in the mystery/haunting/paranormal genre. I also really appreciated the ending. There is, however, one thing that would have been nice........to be able to start reading the next book :o)

A fun ride along with a family and their manifested demon
This story is about how fear and fright can feed someone's life into the dark. Not. a spirit the ladies can help but something conjured out from the mind that can actually kill . I have a little trouble with some of the UK slang. I can hardly wait to start reading the next book in this series.

I will continue to look for more stories from Psychic Surveys!
I really enjoy spending time with these characters. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first book because it went down a darker path. Even though they repeatedly emphasized that they weren't dealing with a "demon", it sure walked, talked and smelled like one. I like the more "standard" ghosts. Another thing I enjoyed about the first book, was in addition to the main case, they investigated smaller hauntings for a page or two. Because of the scope of this issue, the entire group basically went into hiding and left their main stream existence that I liked so much. They are normal folks with a weird job and I like that. Good for Jed! He plays a bigger role in this story and I LOVED it..

Psychic Surveys Series.
Book two--Wow. Shani Struthers writes just what I like to read. Her books take me on a paranormal adventure. Captivating. Difficult to put down.I know the ending is going to be good with no cliff-hangers. When one book ends, I want to start another. There is nothing too dark or sad toleave me feeling in a down mood. Just some great characters brought to life by a talented author. I love Jed. Who's Jed? Read the book. Youwon't be disappointed.

Enjoying this series
This series is proving to be challenging my thoughts of good and bad. Heavenly and demonic evil. In the good BOOK, there is a verse that states words have the power th raise up or to kill. It is A Truth.

Another great read!
The only negative....what happened to Daisy?? As a dog lover I need the reassurance she is OK. :) Other than that....fantastic. and I just can't get enough of Jed...having just lost a dog...one I thought of as my angel...I live reading about Jed and the rainbow bridge. Very comforting. Jed reminds me of Walter...Rip... and I love all the talk of the light and crystals... and I cried again. Can't help it. This book made me feel lots of emotions. A wonderful escape.

Another good read.
Another great novel about the psychic world. Shani Struthers has a way of telling a story that has you up late into the night reading to see what happens. She can set up a scene that is exciting and a little hair raising in her books. This was a little darker in that she develops more of Ruby's background with demons and her family. I love the setting and descriptions of the area near Brighton, UK. This is a good read I had a hard time putting down.
