Useful tool for those jobs were you need to find a stud to screw into or avoid a live cable.The box supplied is a quality build with magnet clasp.The unit is light and feels solid, though could do with a case if it’s to be thrown in a tool box.Easy to use:- switch it on with the power button- calibrate by putting the unit against the wall we’re the stub probably isn’t , and hold the calibrate button- keep the button held and then search along the wall. The all the arrows light up when the start of a beam is found.- approach the detected area from the other side and you can see were beam stops.I tried it under an electric socket and it found a live cable. Tried it around a socket switched off and it didn’t give a detection.The only down side is that there is a lip on the detector end, so I’m careful not to press hard on the wall.Otherwise a handy tool for the diy collection.

Bought this for one of my personal tools of work and i am always drilling different kind of walls and i don't know what is behind. Now with this tools i can see if something important it is behind and do the drill on another side of the wall few inch away. Really helpfull tool for me thanks

Does not detect electrical wires.Calibrated as per instructions but did not detect any wires going to light switches or sockets.Returned for refund

Seems to work but came with no instructions whatsoever. Had to google to find out about the calibration process as described by another reviewer. This may be the cause of some of the negative reviews.

Utterly useless. Couldn't detect anything - I even just held it up to door and it then told me that there was studs and electrical behind it! Sent straight back

Sorry but it was useless in detecting mains cables - according to the readings the entire walls as a mesh of cables!! Switched to metal detecting mode and managed to avoid a cable. Returned for a refund.

Calibrated according to instructions and then found that apparently around 1m width of dry wall was AC mains!!! There is one socket and I needed it to check where the wire was recessed but this was useless! Sent back for a competitor product.
