Keeps kids safe and secure
We had a toddler in our house who figured out doors and locks very early and was also a "runner," and so we were looking for a way to prevent unexpected exits through the front and back doors of the house that was more secure than a door alarm. The GlideLok was exactly what we needed. The product was easy to install, and it fit perfectly over every size door in our house. It took minimal work and tools to install (though you'll want a drill and possibly a small 1/16" sized drill bit). In no time, we felt more secure about preventing our little ones from leaving the house without us knowing. In-home sitters have also commented about how they feel much more secure knowing the kids are not opening the front or back door. It's super sturdy, and even after accidental strong attempts by an adult to open the door while it was locked, the GlideLok held fast and didn't damage the top of our door. Even after a year or more of use, the gliding mechanism works smoothly and effortlessly. It's as easy as a deadbolt to lock.If there is one downside we've found (and it's not with the product itself), it's remembering to unlock the slider in addition to the door's regular locks. As mentioned before, the adults in the house have mistakenly pulled on the door while the top lock is engaged. Thankfully, this has not yet resulted in any issues (other than perhaps some embarrassment for the opener of the door), but it is something you need to make mental note of when in use.As far as overall safety goes, we did consider household fire safety when installing this product. We ultimately determined that while our kids were preschool and younger it was more important for us to know they were not leaving the house without us and to be responsible for unlocking the door and moving them out to safety in the event of a fire/carbon monoxide incident. As we've worked with our kids to leave the outside doors and locks alone, we have gradually shifted to using the GlideLok only when our kids are playing independently and moving in and out of the rooms where we are.In summary, I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to any other parent looking for an extra layer of peace of mind.

Pricey but effective
Was going to leave 4 stars because it's rather expensive for a piece of metal that's been through a brake press, but saw someone else left four stars because they can't count so this will even it out.Installation was simple and it's effective. My six year old special needs son can reach the standard door locks and is strong enough and dexterous enough to defeat 'over the handle' style baby proofing items. He isn't tall enough to reach the top of the door yet. This works and keeps him safe.If you think you need more than one go ahead and find the 3-pack. I ordered a single pack thinking if it worked I would get another. Still going to do that, but my price per each isn't the best that way.

Does what it should, but a couple issues
Overall, this does a good job of keeping little kids out of rooms where they shouldn't be, or when they shouldn't be. The install was easy except for marking the spot to drill for the post. The instructions explain well how to place it, but then say to insert a pencil into the hole to mark the jamb. Well, guess what -- the hole is too narrow for a standard size pencil. I tried all kinds of marking implements and nothing would fit. I finally ended up holding the post where I wanted it and putting a drill bit in the hole and drilling a hole where I wanted it. Worked OK, but if the post moves just a tiny bit while you're doing this, it will end up in the wrong spot and not line up with the slot on the locking part. Then you get to do it all over again. Same thing if the bit isn't perfectly 90 degrees perpendicular in all directions to the jamb. Some kind of template would have helped a lot. So you need a great deal of patience to get it right the first time.I also think that this device is overpriced for what you get -- a mass-produced piece of machined metal, a plastic post, and a screw. They could probably sell this for half the price and still make a reasonable profit.Still, I gave it 4 stars, because in spite of the aggravation installing the post, it does keep the kids out and is very easy and fast for the grownups to lock and unlock. And how can you put a price on your kid's safety? But with a better way to install the post, and a better price, I would not have hesitated to rate it 5 stars.

Great until…
This worked perfectly in the beginning, kept my toddler twins from escaping their fun zone (home) while they allowed me basic human rights to shower alone for 5-10 mins. Easily accessible from inside and outside, what could go wrong? When installed correctly and in lock position the door will not open! Ironically this did not halt the barbarian husband of mine which lead to pushing on the door upon entering our wilderness. After many attempts to break the door down while using the latch in the lock position we achieved our goal.My dearest mother didn’t think locking our deadbolt on the door was necessary however the this latch was obviously a must to lock, duh. Soon after in a rage I tried to escape the wilderness climbing through lego pieces, baby dolls, and even crumbs, I managed to reach the door handle. I quickly turned the door handle and pulled back on the door with no budge, I tried again pulling even harder, nothing. I let go, then grabbed it again before being stopped by my capturers (toddlers) pulling the door open only to hear wood splitting as it was stuck with the door as I swung it open. And that my friends is how I busted the door open with a portion of the door jam. We are no longer using this lock for obvious reasons but it truly is a good lock and highly recommended.

Not only for children
This is a great idea. My wife has dementia and she hasn’t figured out what she needs to do to open the door. Very easy to install.
