Q: ultraviolet light is very bad for the eyes. how does this device handle the eye safety issue?

It's UL approved. It's not harmful. Anymore than your microwave is. If you don't use s microwave for safety reasons....I'd stay away from this too. And breathe. Just...take a deep breath. Life is short! My best friend died next to me 12 years ago (I'm 35... I was 22) bc a drunk driver hit us both head on at 115mph. I've had 12 surgeries. I can't work atm bc of my spinal fusion causing seriousness pain. There TRULY are problems in the world WORTH your intelligence level! THIS is NOT one of them. Do some GOOD darlin. You'll look back & realize you lived a life full of FEAR & didn't actually LIVE at ALL. SO many things are bad for us. We're just AWARE NOW bc it's 2016. Just live, I assure you it's the best advice you'll get in life. Or the biggest regret that you never had the chance to get to know what you could have been if you DON'T take it!

Q: went to the manufacture page bulbs are NLA. Went to home depot, and they dont have anything shorter than 18'' where do I find replacment bulbs?

13" in length is the size of the bulb's length. If you count the connectors (the 2 connection points on both ends) it is 13 1/2 inches in length. The diameter of the bulb is 14 millimeters based on the end caps of the bulbs. I wanted to add this information here for others that may not know the length and diameter of the bulbs. With this information, you and many others should be able to find the appropriate size bulbs. Just make sure you get two and that each is 10W since both combined is what makes the zapper it's 20W.

Q: How good is this zapper with clearing the area from mosquitoes? Do I have to buy attractant additionally to make this zapper more effective?

UV zappers kill beneficial insects, attract mosquitoes but don't kill them, help mosquitoes find standing water to lay their eggs, and spray insect fragments into the air. The Ultra Violet (UV) light from zappers attracts all night-flying insects. Each night zappers kill about 3,000 beneficial insects such as moths and butterflies, which pollinate flowers, but only a handful of mosquitoes. A Notre Dame University study in South Bend Indiana showed that people with a zapper in their backyard got bit 10% more than people without one because zappers attracted mosquitoes but did not kill them. UV light also helps mosquitoes find water where they lay their eggs. When UV light is reflected off the surface of water it is polarized. Like polarized sunglasses that reduce glare and help you see objects more clearly, the mosquitoes follow the polarized light to the water to lay their eggs. Because they attract large bugs, they are purposefully designed to explode them so they don't accumulate and become a fire hazard. Exploding bug-fragments drift on the air. People and food nearby may be contaminated by insect-fragments from the zapper.

Q: will this work with horse flies?

Just remember to wait at least an hour or two after unplugging before trying to clean the fried bug parts off the inner grid. The grid wires are energized by (I'm guessing) a large capacitor. Dangerous voltage can remain after the unit is unplugged. I noticed this when I went to dump out the dead flies and a fly was zapped by the UNPLUGGED unit. Also remember to use a brush with NON-CONDUCTIVE bristles (not a BBQ or other wire brush).
