Guitar Scales in Context
I had previously bought another book but it didn't give me what I wanted; its Ok knowing scales but, how do you use them! Fortunately i came across this book by Joseph Alexander and as the title says it puts scales into context, provides backing tracks to down load and importantly gives me licks to try and play along. This is exactly what I am looking for.The book is well laid out and easy to understand. Not all scales are included, but the main and important ones are and therefore more than enough to get on with. Mastering any or all of them would make you into a fantastic guitar player - so who knows!Whilst everything is in one key - C and it would be more helpful if there was a blend of scales, Joseph does explain how to play in different keys which helps me to improve my knowledge rather than relying on looking at scales and riffs only - which (may be an age thing I am a senior starting late on my guitar journey) just looking I don;t seem to retain as much as "learning" and figuring things out for myself! All in all a great book if you want to know more about scales and how to use that knowledge.

another excellent book
What can you say, the author takes you on a musical journey basically holding your had throughout - not to say there isn't any hard work to be done by yourself... If your sick of buying books on scales, and practicing them only to forget them, because it's boring because you don't know how to use them in a musical context then this book is for you. I've purchased several books from this author all of which I give 10/10.

Better out there.
The guy who has written it let's qlot of his opinions maybe put people off of other aspects that are equally as important like modes. The knowledge is good but sometimes the read feels like its a guy just writing his rants down qbout scales too. Much better books out there to be honest.

Definitely not for beginners
I purchased this book as I thought it would provide me with some help with learning basic scales and chord structure; however if is much more advanced than I expected and I therefore returned it.This book is very well written and provides a lot of knowledge and insight, but is definitely not for beginners.

Great book. Buy it.
This is one of the most useful guitar books for guitar scales imho. I like the concise easy to follow nature of the chapters and supporting audio. My view this that this book is useful for both beginners and those more experienced players who don't have a full understanding and appreciation of the different scales. I would highly recommend this book.

Guitar theory in context
Finally, a book that combines essential music theory in a simple to understand and learn way. Scales, triads, CAGED system and major7 arpeggios are all put together in graphics, so you can memorise them and apply them in a practical way across the fingerboard. Backing tracks and licks are provided to help you get started with every new scale you learn. Very good book. Highly recommended!

Guitar Scales in Context: The Practical Reference Guide - Joseph Alexander and Pete Sklaroff
As the title says, "Practical Reference Guide". Set out in unambiguous terms with ample descriptions, diagrams and sound clips allowing practice and jamming. Good value and a very good reference source as found to be the case with other Joseph Alexander products.

Not great
Author opens with an intro about how he hates dictionaries of scales and then immediately proceeds to bombard you just about that.
