Good for Casual Light Reading and Walks
The basic structure of this book is 100-200 words and a photo for about 200 plants and animals of the Texas Hill Country. A nice thing about the book is that it makes no attempt to be deeply encyclopedic. It hits the high points. Things you will see and/or have seen and wondered a little about. For example It shows maybe 40 of the 200+ birds that can be seen here. And yes there is a page labeled "Sparrows" covering a bunch and there is only one, the House Sparrow, with its photo and 100-200 words with its own page. You get the general idea. If you want to know the interesting and/or commonly seen things and want a beginners or casual intermediates guide to nature in the Texas Hill Country and do not want the type of book that covers the 700 birds of North America, you may particularly enjoy this book. Starting here you may move on to more comprehensive texts.

For the newbies in Central Texas…
This very well illustrated book has lots of information for those of you who have recently relocated to Central Texas. It is not complete but has most of the things you will see and good information on how our very unique area came to be.
