The Busy World of Richard Scarry - The Busiest Firefighters Ever [VHS]

What I like about this video is the diversity of careers that it shows. Besides doctor, police and fire people --which are very predictable-- the video demonstrates that it is possible to make a living by being a grocer, pilot, farmers, builder, plumber, painter, or even travel agent.What my 3 and 1 year olds like about it are the songs, the neat characters like Huckle the cat and Henrietta Hippo, and the silly situations that Richard Scarry is renown for. In one part, the baker (Able Baker Charlie) mixes in too much yeast into his dough and the situation quickly escalates into total mayhem in the bakery.All in all, if I were to sum this video up I would say that it is downright fun as well as educational.Pam T~

Do not get The Best of The Busy World of Richard Scary, with this story listed as one of the stories, because it isn't. Only one story from this video is included on the compilation and it isn't the moon one, it is The Floating Bananas.This video is the only one where you'll get the actual story, A Trip to the Moon, as far as I can tell.

My kids loved this on VHS when they were little and now they're 20, I got this as a surprise, they still love it! One of the best kids videos..ever!

The only bad thing about TBWORS series is it got cancaled before I got a chance to watch it on tv. The show itself is harmless enough and not dark at all. The episodes are pretty good and nice. I give this tape a 7 out of 10.

My kids great up with the Richard Scarry books and I bought this to introduce my grandchildren to the characters. It has always been a favorite of theirs.

20年前VHSで、息子が毎日、見て聴いていました。英語漬けの息子を見ていて、思い出し、懐かしくなり、DVDを購入。絵もストーリも可愛いし、you can be～♪の歌も良いですよ。

ハックル達が通う学校で、将来何になりたいかのお話になります。ＢＵＳＹ　ＴＯＷＮではみんなそれぞれ働いていて、子ども達はそんな大人を見て、自分だったら何になりたいかの夢を語り始めます。歌も聴き取りやすいし、たくさんの職業も出てきて、見ていて他のＤＶＤの中では一番のお気に入りです。What Do You People Do All Day?　と言う絵本と連動しているところがあるので、合わせて持っていると２倍以上楽しめる思います☆

日本の子供向け英語DVDは、途中で日本語が入るものが大半を占めていると思います。その点、本作品は海外で作られただけあり、全て英語！３０分という時間も、子供には丁度いいかと思います。ただ残念なのが、字幕・説明の冊子が全くない事。リージョンフリーなだけに、日本語の字幕がないのは仕様がないとして、英語の字幕だけでも出てくれるとより良いのですが。（この点を差し引いて、星４つにしました。）基本的に映像ですし、それほど難しい単語でもないので、全体的なストーリーを把握する事は出来ます。が、一言一句聞き取れるかと言われると、中学英語レベル（更に劣化(^_^;)？）の私には難しかったです。小さいお子さんに、とりあえず聞き流しさせてあげるにはとても良いと思いますが、英単語を学ぶ点では今ひとつ。

２歳になったばかりだった娘が毎日飽きずに見ていました。英語ONLYのビデオでは初めてのことだったので驚きました。　ハックルやクラスメイトが語る将来の夢を通して、さまざまな職業がでてきます。パン屋さん、トラックの運転手、農家、食料品店、郵便配達、医者、パイロット、船長、など、憧れの職業の内容が子供に分かりやすいように、ユーモアを交えて描かれています。　もうすぐ３歳になりますが、DVDにでてくる歌を自然に口ずさむようになりました。そして、一緒に見ている私も同じく…♪

私がこどもの頃にRichardScarryさんの本を見てから懐かしくシリーズの本も購入し、少し前にビデオもあることを知りました。本はアメリカ本国でも教材に使われているとのことで、ハックルやローリー、バナナゴリラも出てきてどの作品もほのぼのとしています。このビデオはABCビデオ、１２３ビデオなどを見てから購入したので２歳半のこどもも抵抗なく楽しんでみています。「大きくなったら何になりたいのか」というこども達の想像で、パン屋さんやお医者さん、旅行会社や郵便局で働く人などが登場しますが、のりもの好きなこどもは消防隊員の人と消防車が出てくるところが１番興奮しています。「Busy people, busy people♪〜」の歌も覚えてしまい、朝起きてからすぐ「Busy people見たいの〜」と言っています。楽しみながら英語に親しめるのでオススメです。
