An Overview of Hermeneutics
This is truly a good introduction to understanding Biblical interpretation.....it is a heavy read but yet very helpful book as an introduction to hermeneutics.

Hermeneutics (SPEP)
Started reading this book for class, and it is pretty informative, but I don't think I would buy this book just for fun to read unless you're a philosophy major

a good history of the PAST
I had to read this book for school. It was okay as a history of a very misconcieved topic. Frankly, after reading Noam Chomsky's New Horizons in the Study of Language and Mind, Palmer's book is (I believe) mostly beside the point. But when compared to other intro books on "hermeneutics" it's probably as good as any, maybe a bit dated. Still, the language is clear enough to understand (a sign of it's out datedness). If your interested in langauge pick up The Cambridge Companion to Chomsky.

As a student I had Dr. Palmer, the author has a teacher.
He stretched my brain and required papers and oral examination as well as the normal written exams. That was not coming back in the 60s.
