factory cuts
Easily slices through 6" Styrofoam panels. Takes a couple of tries to learn to keep the temp right, but anyone can do this.

WHere is the duty case
in the pictures it shows a duty plastic case to store this in when not in use but what you is everything packed in foam nicely in a cardboard box and no duty case at all so be aware that there is not one and checked to see if could order as accessory there is none in the the Minova store either. Be nice if that was addressed. and corrected.

Burns. Respirator required
Maybe we'll get better with it but the foam makes a god awful noxious burning smell that made me immediately vomit. Outside is not enough. Respiratory absolutely required and I never wear one. It really burns and doesn't make a nice cut like I was hoping

Great product
I am putting in styrofoam insulation in between wall studs in a room I am remodeling. This hot knife was one of the better looking models on line so tried it. It works wonderfully, so much better than a utility knife. Quick easy cuts, if you use level3, high temp make sure to be working in a well ventilated area. I used it on level two the whole time and it didn’t burn at all or produce any smoke, you just have to take your time. Would defenitly recommend. Comes with a scraper to clean the blade. Recommend small wire brush if you really want to clean up after you finish working with it. Good price and quite a few accessories available.

First time was a stringy mess
Maybe more practice is needed, but nearly every cut I made left debris on the blade and strings hanging off of the cuts. The instructions recommend trying to not push the "heat up the knife" button all the time, but only as needed. Well, the long cut on the pink foam was half hot and half cutting, and still left plenty of melted foam behind. It was on the middle setting as that's what was recommended to start with, and that lower temps would help prevent smoke, smells, and buildup on the blade--it didn't seem to matter on those as much as only the highest setting seemed to really make a clean cut on the pink foam. The white foam was a bit easier, but it would still leave melted debris on the knife and had strings hanging off of it.It does cut well when heated up, the cut can be smooth and clean, however, I cannot reliably make that happen yet. It is easy to understand and use, but the intuitive parts of knowing what temperature and how long to use the button and when...those take some developing.
