It's a book all about runes

Book = 5 Stars; Amazon Sellers = Negative 5 Stars
This is a very difficult to find set of Rune cards for this system. Everyone of the Amazon sellers has it listed for gawd awful money as if anyone of sane mind is going to spend $100+ for a set of cards with Runes painted on them regardless of how beautiful they are. If you collect decks, then so be it, go pay their price. At this moment, some seller has the cards for $300! Ouch.I've ordered this from two different Amazon Sellers both of whom said "New Condition" and yet if they were NEW, then where are the cards??? Thus I'm now aware that Amazon sellers are not being honest. Neither book would even be listed as 'new' because of the wear & tear the covers have had yet the sellers did. Had they listed it as Used Good 'No Cards' or 'book only' that'd give you some idea so you can make an informed decision.Pennick has done a good job with the book. Very detailed and he goes into things that most Rune books do not go into. For instance, Pennick discusses several different layouts for the Rune cards much like they'd be used for Tarot with various spreads. This is clearly thinking outside the box as it is not historical but it does add for some unique ways to look & interact with the cards. One of the methods he advises is to use the cards in the form of an Astrological Wheel. Then beginning on page 204 until 235, he gives you the meanings of each Rune card as it would be interpreted in each house of the Zodiac Wheel. I'm not sure I'd buy into that only because it's like the white books that come with Tarot cards & tell you what upright card means & inverse card means & when it lands in this spot on the Celtic Cross what it means. It'd be far better to memorize the Rune's meanings & then let your intuition be your guide as you lay them out & where they show up what they mean. Also he includes a LOT of very New Age like layouts such as the 'Celtic Cross' which is typical standard layout for Tarot. There's one called the 'Papus Spread' which refers to Gerard Encausse who went by the name Papus & wrote a very unique book on Tarot called "Tarot of the Bohemians". I believe he also penned a book on Qabala and co-authored another book or two. What does this have to do with Runes? Nothing. Exactly my point.Where this book starts getting interesting is beginning pp. 236-246 where it's disucsses how the Runes interact with one another. This can be a major help to a Novice so that you don't go trying to use Thurisaz & Isa together, side-by-side. Why? One is Fire & the other is Ice which are opposites in the Norse cosmology. However you also glean ideas on how to better relate one Rune to another through meditation on into Magic.Beginning page 247, now Pennick introduces a little known technique called 'Triads' where three Runes are used together to not only mesh Magically but a word is made out of the three Runic letters which can be meditated upon or invoked in Magic & so on. This could become the start of an open hand system to use anywhere if one would apply themselves with this knowledge & build upon it.Over all, the book rates FIVE STARS but the people who sell the out-of-print books rate -5 Stars because NONE of them tell you the cards are not included with the book. Thus if you want the cards, write to the seller first & ask. DO NOT SPEND MONEY on this until you are for certain you are getting the cards with the book ore else you'll get screwed as I did. (I know shame on me)

a new and fresh look for the ancient runes
The Futhark system of runes has been transferred to a deck format, with illustrated artwork incorporating the appropriate runic symbol on each cards. Hermann Haindl's paintings are fresh and unique insights into the ancient runes. A very delightfull and helpfull reading that explain carefully the diferent meanings that a symbol can take in several situations. Is a complete guide for the expert and a ideal begining for the rookie

Excellent
Terrific book and arrived in perfect condition and well within the expected delivery date. It gives a very in-depth reading for each of the runes, and I find it invaluable although I don’t own the Haindl rune cards or indeed any other rune cards.
