High quality kitchen bin that keeps both hands free...
... and no need for a pedal to try an stamp when bining items while cooking. The brushed stainless steel pail is think enough to have lasted in a kitchen for 11 years with only one very minor dent. Any thicker and it would be on the heavy side, not that you have to move it as it’s best to use an inner bag held firmly in place by a substantial liner ring. While it takes up a small footprint it takes a lot to fill it, plus the height is ideal placed near a worktop so there’s not much movement or bending required to drop items into it. If you can line it up facing more parallel to the cupboards, rather than pointing into the kitchen, it shouldn’t open unless you have something to put in it. Batteries seem to last well over year, and it’s used a lot every day. I did need a replacement head unit, as these are moving parts that will wear over the years, however, autobin.co.uk supply these at a reasonable cost. The latest head unit design takes 3 of the large D cell batteries, rather than 4, which cuts down a bit on the weight plus they now come with a 10 year warranty so will probably last even longer than mine did. Finally, keeping the pail bin clean is quick and easy so this should probably last a lifetime...

Autobin - uk buyers beware
I bought the large autobin thinking that it would positively help our family in the kitchen. Don't buy it unless you've got a cupboard or dedicated area for the bin - it'll flip up all the time when you or your children pass it wasting loads of battery life. My bin broke down after 12 months and was continually staying in the upright position. I phoned Autobin UK twice to discuss sending it back under their 5 year guarantee. Both times I was told that staff were at Conferences and there was nobody around to take my call - I left my number and nobody phoned back. (It would have cost me £20 plus despatch postage to return the bin head even if I'd been authorised to return the bin under guarantee.) All in all Autobin was a huge waste of money and a huge drain on batteries. After sales service was rubbish. I went to tesco and bought a 50L stainless steel bin by Simply Human for £39.00 and it is brilliant. Bitterly regret the £90+ that I spent on Autobin - don't repeat my mistake.

Great idea, average implementation, stopped working after 2 years
I held back on buying this for almost a year trying to justify that I need technology in a bin.I eventually gave in and bought one.I generally enjoyed it but agree that the neck is too small and it constantly goes off when you walk past it.Friends loved talking about it with varying views which made it quite funny.Unfortunately after 2 years it has stopped working and now you have to lift the lid to access it - which is pretty rank especially as the neck is small so it gets pretty dirty.

Nice idea, poor execution
We have spent ages hunting for a suitable bin, in the end I opted for this. I have been a little disappointed. The novelty soon becomes an annoyance. The lid opens when you do walk near it or lean across it - this slightly annoying but you do get used of it. There is a flimsy internal collar which secures the bin bag, every time I empty/change the bag and have to remove the collar I am just waiting for it to break, it's just a matter of time. This could be a much more robust. When lifting the bag out of the bin, there are no holes to allow the air in at the bottom, so you can battle with a full bag whilst the vacuum inside the bin itself is fills with air.The batteries do need replacing, approx. £5.50 every 6 months (or use rechargeable ones if you are organised...)The automatic opening is a very nice feature but the trade-off is the neck is very small compared to conventional bins of the same size. The delay in opening when you wave you hand in front of it is also a bit annoying, I am sure for more patient people this would not be an issue. The concept is great; I do feel that the design could be better.

Works well
Not really sure why I bought this but it seems to be working well so far. Construction is a bit flimsy but the bin is functional and not had any problems with the opening and closing mechanism. Batteries have lasted 10 weeks thus far and are still going.

Nastech Bin - The bin opens by button or just moving in front of it
This bin has a 10 year guarantee on the opening mechanism ! The bin is like a tardis & isn't that big externally when you look at it in the kitchen. The opening of the bin without touching it is brilliant, even the kids are amazed at how it opens by just moving in front of the bin. You can also switch the battery operated mechanism off, to save battery power. As a bin it holds alot, its lid opens well, and the opening for rubbish is a good size.If you like gadgets this is really good & looks good in the kitchen. Its also easy to put new bags in place as well. The delivery by this company was amazing - they said from memory 7 days or so. The bin arrived by courier the next working day!! which was way ahead of expectations.

Second one after ten years!
Great hygienic bin. Bought this to replace the top of one we've had for ten years, which stopped working. Could have still used the old one without the auto function, but we missed it. Good sturdy build quality and made to last.
