Typical Bob !
It’s laugh out loud funny and probably slightly true. I’m familiar with the areas mentioned in this book, so it made a good background for it. Highly recommended and a great laugh !

Witty and Amusing Light Read
This is a well written and light whodunnit with twists and turns. It's very Bob Mortimer and some may not attach to his comedic style. I do. I enjoyed the book and, without being too analytical, that's all that matters. It's warm hearted and funny, with well drawn characters. A great antidote to gloom if you're experiencing any of that at the moment.

I really enjoyed this.
I picked this up as I like Bobs work. Wasnt sure what it would be like. I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed reading this from start to finish. It just appealed and hits a spot. It has that sense of hours, of his and I loved the characters. So much so, I have picked up the follow up book and am about the dive in. Quality stuff. Love it.

Nothing too taxing
I read this as a palette cleanser between books because I needed something to read quickly before the release date of another book and it did the trick just nicely. It's a nice little book, it was easy to read and had likeable central characters, there was nothing too taxing with this, the plot plodded along nicely with the mystery slowly unravelling as the story progressed and it all tied up quite neatly at the end. There have been comparisons drawn between this book and Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club series and having read both they don't really compare. They are similar in the sense that there is mystery in the plotline that is being solved but the comparisons stop there, I also feel if you were to compare the two then Richard's plotlines and character development are far superior. Bob has a unique sense of humour which he is well known for and I think that fans of his comedy work would enjoy the humour within this book as it is his usual style. It didn't really land that well with me but thats a personal preference, particularly towards the beginning of the book it felt like it was trying a bit hard to be quirky but that did settle down as the book progressed. It's such a small irritant but for some reason when the characters kept referring to the corn on the cob memory stick as the corn cob memory stick it made me irrationally annoyed. It's not a big thing but it kept being said and every time it annoyed me a little more. I fully get that this is on me and definitely not a reason to not read this book and I'm probably the only person annoyed by this.It was an enjoyable read and I would like to read future fictional offerings from Bob.

Entertaining and easy read
The Satsuma Complex is Bob Mortimer's first novel. It's about a quiet and unassuming bloke called Gary, who gets caught up in a potentially deadly mystery when his work colleague Brendan goes missing. Gary works for a firm of solicitors, and was the last person to see private investigator Brendan, when they met in the pub for a pint. Later that same evening Gary met a woman, but characteristically failed to get either her name or number and so he is also on a personal quest to find her again. It's a pacy and entertaining read, with some fabulous characters. Gary's grumpy neighbour Grace is a particular joy. The two storylines weave about each other and eventually come together in a satisfying conclusion that also leaves things open for a sequel. Bob manages to reign in the flights of fancy that characterise his comedy work, allowing just enough of his surreal humour to shine through to make the banter between the characters witty and fun. Although, Gary does hold regular conversations with a squirrel that hangs out on the grassy patch on his estate...

Think around this...
Genuinely a really good read. Found the storyline to be a lot of fun and was hooked very quickly. Filled with loads of daft interactions with the characters that made me laugh so much. And Bob himself said the main character (Gary) is based on him, so you feel a warmth towards Gary right away.If you don't take yourself to seriously, then this is a book for you.(Update) Just reread for the second time, and can comfirm it's still a bundle of joy and laughter.

Would have been better as a short story
It's a respectable effort from the loveable Mortimer and he writes in a way that is easy to follow and not too packed with fluff. The story on the other hand is a bit weak and feels like it has been done before but with added surreal flourishes which simply serve to drag the romp out unnecessarily. Super predictable and not funny. The last part will either frustrate or satisfy depending on how far you can stretch your imagination. It's a fairly okay page turner but feels overhyped. Definitely not funny but entertaining enough as a casual thriller.
