Another Winner in the Land Art Series. Beautiful Photos of Striking Art.
This year's "Land Art" calendar from Amber Lotus is entitled "Gravity Glue: The Stone Balance Meditations of Michael Grab." I loved 2017's "Beach Murals of Andres Amador," and this 2018 calendar lives up to that standard. Michael Grab's stone balances look supernatural, though they are exemplary of environmental art: stones held in place by gravity. If you want to see Grab in action, check out his web site for videos of how the stone balances are created. Grab is also a fine art photographer, so the compositions are often stunning. I like those that integrate the stone balance into its environment the best. Most of Grab's balances are stones stacked on top of one another, but he also builds stone arches in the manner of dry stone construction, using weathered natural stones. Some of these are quite beautiful. The calendar features twelve photographs of stone balances. I am looking at the January photo now, which is a whole landscape of stone balances in Boulder Creek. It's quite striking. Below each calendar grid, there are Grab's comments about that month's balance. The date and location are either at the top or bottom of the grid. The balances were made in the United States, Great Britain, Spain, Croatia, Iceland, and Turkey. Most of those in the US were in Colorado. The paper produces a sharp reproduction with a fair amount of depth to the tones. Amber Lotus includes "US and Canadian legal holidays, phases of the moon, and important observances of the world's major religions." The calendar is 12 inches square; there is plenty of space for writing in each day's box. Though the paper is slick, you can write on it with pencil or pen.

beautiful balance
Balance. Somehow these stones are balanced by gravity alone. The photographs are likewise balanced in their composition. If I'm stuck indoors, it's nice to ground myself in this land art. Each Land Art calendar has featured a single artist/medium. Michael Grab is the 2018 artist for Gravity Glue. Andres Amador did Beach Murals for 2017, while Dietmar Voorwold did 2016's Creations in Nature. All have been beautiful.

Amazing amazing amazing.
These are some of the most beautiful images. I love rocks. I'm in awe of this person and what he does. I could not have found a better calendar for myself. Sometimes I think the universe makes something exactly to suit me, and this calendar is one of those things.

Beautiful calendar -- wish they had the same thing for 2019
I've been following GravityGlue's stuff for some time now and thoroughly loved having this calendar for 2018; sadly, the Land Art calendar for 2019's not nearly as beautiful (while good on it's own); so it goes.

Very very nice. Beautiful project and photos
Very very nice. Beautiful project and photos. As Christmas gifts, I intend to take 2 of these calendars and include notations of all family birthdays, anniversaries, etc., for my two brothers & families who've requested that info from me, the family record keeper.

This looked like a great Christmas gift and when I received it and really saw the photography I was amazed at the beauty that the pictures held. So unique and would be a good gift for any adult who love nature.

Gorgeous and high-quality
This calendar is gorgeous, high-quality, and an excellent reminder that even seemingly impossible things (like balancing massive rocks on their ends in stacks) can be achieved.
