I mostly use this for adding a little color to meat after cooking.It's especially useful for searing uneven cuts of meat like a pork loin or something similar that isn't cut so you have nice flat edges to pan sear.I use it for when I do Sous Vide cooking, but also to finish up pan searing to get a more even sear all around.It can also be used to finish up vegetables and such if you want that extra bit of presentation for them.This is not something you really need if you're not looking to up your presentation, and you do need to be careful using it. It's a large open flame and it's going to spread out a bit when you direct it at what you're searing.

This fixes your grasshopper problem on your veggies.It probably starts charcoal well too.Big flame (adjustable).

The first one I ordered lit about four times and then didnt work at all. I ordered a replacement and it didnt work at all and then after about 50 tries, it lit once then never again. These are junk and I wasted my time with them and now I have to wait a month its showing to get a refund.

Does meats and crème brûlée. Love it, once in a while I will use it to fire up my charcoal grill. You can regulate the amount of gas to do almost anything with this gizmo. Good to have something like this lying around the house.

Works well, the only thing is that as is going from time to time it has a burst of flame come out at it makes the coals spark

This product worked great for a couple of weeks. But after using one evening and setting it down once we were done using it, it reignited on its own more than a minute or two after it was off. We happened to still be nearby and caught it quickly before we lost our house to a fire.UpDate: The seller reached out after I posted my review. They replaced the defective product and offered a refund. I upgraded my review based on this response.

Got this for my creme brulee - let me just say there is something highly satisfying to firing up this bad boy! Then the last freeze our well froze over and we had no water. Hubby went out with this blowtorch and ran it over the frozen parts and voila! We had water. Literally saved the day.
