It is easy to setup. It being a network connected device, allows to to hide it away in my utility room and not have to run cables to my TV. You might need to buy a good antenna and maybe a cloud/network hard drive, depending on how you are going to use it. If you are not recording anything, then the hard drive is not needed. I canceled my cable due to the outrageous cost. I use this tuner with a cloud hard drive and love it. I have the software running on a 2tb cloud/network hard drive so I do not need to leave computer running to record anything. All recordings are saved to the cloud/network hd. This allows me to access and watch all my recorded shows from anywhere, via a cellphone, a tablet, a computer and even the Fire Stick (with the correct free app) that I take with me when I travel. As long as I can access my personal cloud hd, I can watch my recorded showes. The equipment pays for itself in only few months. After that, it is nothing but savings in your pocket. And NO, I do not miss that expensive monthly cable bill. Review: Better than I expected. - Bought this for use with PLEX - plugged it in, did the setup via PLEX, worked like a champ! Was disgustingly easy to do - plugged it into my ethernet switch, plugged in the power, ran the setup. I didn't even bother with the manufacturer's website, as PLEX has the DVR functions right there in the app. The picture makes it look bigger than it actually is, so I was happy to see how small it really is - fit nicely behind all of my consoles on the living room entertainment stand and it didn't have a huge bulky adapter either. I wouldn't bother with a single tuner device, as this allows my family to watch live TV over PLEX while I watch live TV on my PC using PLEX - those dual tuners are really useful, even allowing you to watch one program while recording another. Hopefully this lasts many years.

very expensive cost me 2x windows96 MCE os's.
wiped my 2 win 95 mce computers trying to install this. it crashed the os.. not a fluke as it did it to both computers. since my computer was dated i bought a new nice one.. it works with the windows 10 modern computer. nothing can replace WMC tho.. nothing in it's class. do not try to install software for this on a win 95 computer. this is great hardware.. or was.. when paired with win 95 MCE ( this was my second tuner other one is several years old) the new tuner seems to be more sensitive as a plus. but it got a pretty big neg when it trashed two of my window installs. ONly one of them was a full retail version. The many years old hd homerun tuner worked fine with win 95 MCE. no software should ever destroy an operating system. first thing any install software should do is handshake with the os to ensure it's supported. this just hung up my os during install .. and then it corrupted the os.. i'm not too happy with silicon dust. even tho they do make a good hardware product. windows 10 is garbage, a touch screen apple knock off not anywhere near as good as windows 7. but at least this product works iwth windows 10.

Exactly What I Wanted
This device does exactly what I wanted it to do and then some. I needed something that would pick up all of my local broadcast channels and send them to my Apple TV. The HD Homerun Extend does that and does it well. Nothing could have been simpler than hooking up the HDHR and getting it running. I did so in less than 5 minutes. The high definition channels stream without a hitch and if anything are clearer and more colorful than what I was receiving on cable. I can now get out from under the expensive monthly fees charged by cable.

Works with Plex
I use this for OTA recordings, with Plex as my DVR. Plex found the device immediately on my network and the Plex configuration wizard was easy to use. I downloaded the HDHomerun app, but it's not necessary if you use Plex.Plex controls the HDHomerun video output stream, be sure it's set for 'highest quality'. The only downside is the video steam is a ;ts' format, I had to do use VLC to see what the actual coded was. One problem I'm having (the reason I didn't give it 5 stars) is the video file is correctly created, but is only a few KB. I'll see what their support has to say about it,

HDHomeRun Extend (with it's built in transcoding) work GREAT with Plex!
I've been using HDHomeRun products for many years and they've always been fantastic. Most recently I was using an HDHomeRun Connect and only replaced it because I wanted the built-in transcoding ability of the Extend. We have a Plex server at our house and this is what we use when we want to watch TV (either live or DVR). Having the HDHomeRun deal with all the transcoding really frees up storage space for the DVR as well as lessening network congestion issues. I'm very happy I upgraded! We can watch live and recorded TV on any of our devices (iPhones, iPads, Roku, laptops, etc) with no buffering!

Forgive the Pun
It’s a home run in my book. I was a little confused with how easy this was to set up. I literally just plugged it in and it worked. It took longer to figure out the Plex DVR than to set everything up. The manufacturer’s app leaves a bit to be desired, it does work, but I didn’t spend the time to delve too deeply since I don’t plan on using it. Plex integration is seamless (you do need the paid subscription, though). I had a Simple.tv a while ago and liked the concept, but pretty much everything about it was garbage. This takes that concept and makes it work. To go into a little more detail, this does not have Wi-Fi, it needs to be plugged into Ethernet. It’s not super clear in product descriptions, but not a problem for me. On product comparisons it lists Wi-Fi requirements for the Extend as 802.11n and others models as 802.11ac, this is actually an advantage because there is a hardware transcoder in the Extend model to convert the raw video stream to h264 for more efficient streaming and storage meaning you don’t need as fast of a connection for things to work and since files end up being smaller, that means more show storage.
