To be honest I bought the album on the strength of absolutely loving 'moments of pleasure'. On the first few listens you're taken aback on how erractic the album sounds. Switching from 'poppy' almost teenage songs such as 'rubberband girl' to the irish jig sounding 'the red shoes' on to the seriously sad and heart felt 'you're the one' its almost a head spin. That said it is one of Kate's most personal albums with her precious work being mainly about characters in books or some other groups of or people who have suffered in some way. as she herself admits she finds the lives of others more interesting than her own. However this album was produced at a time when Kate's mother (who happened to be a professional irish dancer) had just died hence 'the red shoes'. She had also split with her long term partner Del Palmer. You're the one is definitely an ode to him. So as you can imagine Kate was going through a time of mixed and difficult emotions and the album reflects this beautifully. She also collaborates heavily with Prince on the album which is a real treat. Listen out for 'why should I love you' his backing vocals are clear. So I would say don't cast it aside or compare to the' hounds of love' which many believe to be her best work give it some time and you will grow to love it

This is one of my favourite Kate Bush albums (alongside Aerial). The quality and clarity of her voice on this album is unsurpassed. Kate went through a very difficult period in her life around the time of the making of The Red Shoes and she didn't have either the energy or the will to overproduce this album (as she has done with some of her other works). Because of that, there is a rawness and vulnerability to it that is very moving. She later went back and reworked some of the tracks (The Director's Cut) and completely ruined them in my opinion (particularly Rubberband Girl). This album has often been criticised by music journalists and I think even Kate herself is not overly fond of it (but I suspect that that is because it is so honest and so emotionally revealing). But, ignore all you've heard, this is a masterpiece.

This is easily my favourite Kate Bush Album and I came to it very late....a month ago in fact! Her voice is so much more expressive in its lower notes and it was evidently deeply felt. I am not really so keen on some of her popular hits although I can see their quality but this and The Sensual World seem to me to be the work of a true artist. And... because noone else seems to have mentioned it I love most of all 'It must be love' ...kept on playing it and when the opening bars begin always give me a shiver. But all the tracks are wonderful with the weakest being Rubberband Girl. I personally think that this version of 'Moments of Pleasure' is stronger than her own revised version in Director's Cut which misses out to me a vital couple of lines. I realize I am listening to the remastered version which is maybe very important from other reviewers comments.

I must admit initially that I was sceptical about buying this CD,(I have most of kate's CD's) but after reading reviews was not sure I would enjoy it. I thought what the heck I love the title and the picture so I bought it.I played it constantly in my car CD and got to know the songs so well, that I now class this album as my favourite. Song of Solomon is a masterpiece, Lily another, Red shoes another and some of Kate's imagery being 'on top of the angel's shoulders' is just superb.There are so many fantastic tracks on this CD I would highly recommend it. It seems so fresh that it hardly seems possible it was recorded 10 or so years ago.I would agree with an earlier reviewer that you do have to listen to the CD for a few times but once you do there is no going back.Many thanks Kate for a superb, very under-rated Red Shoes!!!!

Her last release before a long break showed her intensity as an artist not waning. Song of Solomon and Constellation of the Heart are highlights of her major label farewell.

This was a bit of a punt for me, I have very few of Kate's discs, so it is a revelation. Firstly the recording is totally beautiful. It comes from the analogue tape made at the time and rediscovered , and used by Kate for this director's cut. It is just beautiful. Digital was all the rage at the time, just goes to show, some old ways are better. I wonder if I should get the vinyl as well.......I shan't go through the tracks describing them, you should be able to listen to them elsewhere and make up your own feebles.This goes well in lossless form for audiophiles, real treat.Have a bash at it!

A beautiful and sublime album from Kate Bush. It grows on you so don't give up (!) if it doesn't grab you straight away....it will

....einzigartig,ich mag KB einfach....Lange nach dem Best Of (Whole Story) bin ich wieder auf diese Musik aufmerksam geworden.Zur Zeit (bei mir) total angesagt!

❣️Kate Bushと言えば「嵐ヶ丘」しか知らなかったが、曲目のサンプリングを聴いて良かったので購入した。コケティッシュな容姿と子供っぽい歌い方のアンバランスが彼女の一番の魅力だと思う。もしもBarbra Streisandのようなオーソドックスな歌い方のシンガーだったら、これほどの人気を集めてはいないだろう。

聞いてみると、あー！聞いたことあるという曲が入っています。kate Bushの歌声は、時々聞きたくなります。

Carissima Kate,mi sono impegnato al massimo te lo assicuro, ma questa volta non sei riuscita a rapirmi se non per il brano "The Song Of Salomon". Per il resto mi sembra tutto così pesante e forzato. Probabilmente si è cercato di coprire la mancanza di una ispirata composzione dei brani con gli arrangiamenti. Preoccupante la voce di Kate, veramente poco convincente.

このアルバムの評価ではなく、この商品を含めて「2011年リマスター盤レッド・シューズ」の評価です。僕はこのアルバムが大好きで、発売当時何百回と聴きました。最近は聴いていなかったのですが、リマスター盤のことを知り、懐かしくなり購入したのですが、サウンド的には全くの別物だと思います。音的なことなので、完全に好みの問題なのですが、オリジナル盤をこよなく愛していたものとしては、かなり辛いです。この商品のトレイ下に、『オリジナルの「レッド・シューズ」は、やや刺々しいサウンドだなとずっと思っていました。あのころ私たちが使っていたデジタル機材のためです。当時は誰もがデジタル領域で作業しなければとプレッシャーを感じていました。テープのヒス・ノイズがないし音が鮮明だということで、デジタルは大いに望みをかけられていたのです。私は今もアナログの熱烈な信奉者なもので、1/2インチ幅のアナログ・テープに録ってあったこのアルバムのバックアップ・ミックスが最近出てきたときは大喜びしました。これはまたとないチャンスだ、これで「レッド・シューズ」の本当の意味でのリマスター・ヴァージョン、このコレクションに含めることができると思ったのです。』という言葉が記載されてあって、全くこの通りのサウンドだと思います。オリジナル盤に慣れ親しんだものとしては、無理やりアナログ化されたような、すごく弛緩されたサウンドだと感じます。このアルバムの新しい解釈の仕方だと受け取って楽しめる方もいらっしゃるんだと思うのですが、僕的には全くダメでした。

何気ない音楽の中に、気持ちよさを封じ込めている。ケイト・ブッシュの良さはよく出ている。おなじみの民俗音楽的アプローチがこのアルバムにも見られる。最終曲の、ブルガリアの女声合唱がもっとも特徴的だが、それがもともとの彼女の歌声と何の無理もなく溶け合っている。もともとの彼女の音楽に、そういう性質があるのかもしれない。
