Hardcore Gaming 101 Presents: The Guide to Retro Indie Games Vol. 1

It is easy to find reviews, discussions and press on the biggest modern titles. However, I have found that the greatest experimentation and innovation is happening with smaller studios and individuals in the video game scene. This is an excellent overview of a lot of titles worth talking about and remembering. If you find yourself jaded with modern boilerplate modern games, check out the books in this HG101 Indie games series (of which there is now 2 volumes as of this review).

My boyfriend loves retro games (and Hardcore Gaming 101) so I've been buying him these books as gifts. They're good quality and have a lot of good information in them. He's done a lot of research and really knows his stuff, but even he finds games and facts in these books he wasn't aware of. Gaming books can be hit or miss but these always seem to be a safe bet.

Great book, provides great information (and several pictures) about many Indie games. Waiting for vol. 2!
