Orijen Senior Dog Food, 11.4 kg

Well as my old girl Tess was in her 14th year I thought she deserved the best food to see her through her twilight days and Origen Senior is given a 5 star rating on 'allaboutdogfood' website so I moved her on to it. As a Chocolate Labrador Tess is well used to dietry indiscretions but suprisingly she could not to tollerate the change which gave her acute diarrhoea. I had to introduce it very gradually increasing the mixture with her previous dog food by 25% each week over a 3 week period. Now she is fine on it, producing small firm stools has a good coat and does not look her age although now into her 15th year. She will still happily walk a mile or two each day, albeit quite slowly. Even her vet comments on how good she looks for her age Mainly down to her genes I expect but I like to think Origen is playing its part in keeping her going. It is fiendishly expensive but she only requires a180 grams a day so is affordable. I have drawn the line at rating it for flavour, thickness and smell but Tess loves anything in her food bowl and nothing stays in there very long and Origen is no exception!

I have a bichon frise that will be 15 this year and for the last year she has had a lot of stomach problems. I tried without success to find a senior food that agreed with her. I remember with my previous bichon I fed him on Pacifica Acana, the same company that produced Orijen, and I thought I would give Orijen senior a try. Usually I let my dogs have their new food introduced slowly to avoid loose stools but my dog had just had a lot of stomach trouble and I was anxious to get her off the home-cooked chicken and rice and on to a permanent food. I'd read elsewhere that one didn't need to do the usual transition time with Orijen senior (I belong to the bichon frise club of GB and many bichon owners recommend this product) and just began adding it to the chicken and rice over two days. It is now a week later and so far so good. She is thirstier than usual but one expects that with kibble. She loves the taste, her stools are firm and not smelly and she seems to have more energy. I hope this will now be the last food that I will experiment with. Everything I have read and heard about Orijen confirms that it is indeed a premium food for dogs.

Jury is out on this one. The dog seems to love it but since changing to this food she’s eating tissues again and seems hungry all the time!!! She also seems somewhat giddy is the only way I can describe it. Like she’s a pup again but she’s not she’s 10!!! Poos seem firm on it and smell ok. Her breath smells of fish now and the product it’s self is very fishy which is a bit off putting. The product arrived ripped and I had to send it back - second bag arrived in no amazon box but thankfully not ripped

Excellent dog food - rated 95% on allaboutdogfood.co.uk (highly recommended) - and very few dry dog foods get such a high score. This is one of the top nutritional dog foods - a bit expensive but I mix this with other top products for variety. I have just bought this and my dogs eyes lit up when he caught the scent, and that was before I opened the bag. I did taste a piece and it was quite palatable. So get your dog a bag of this and he will be so happy he will probably vacuum the house and clean the windows!

A really good, ethically sourced, food with everything an old dog needs. Labradors will eat anything (including the odd rotting seagull on the beach) so it's not a case of tempting her to eat but with Orijen her digestive system works perfectly - as can be seen when clearing up after her when we're out for a walk. Soft, well formed stools that are easy to collect. It's well worth the high price tag. Or it was - I can't believe the greed of the seller who has literally doubled the price to £141, against £70 last November. It's still available at £70 elsewhere online so I'll get it there.

Within days of eating this food my 7 year old dog Coco’s coat was silky. She had got too big eating grain based food so we needed to reduce her carb intake so this food caught my eye with it’s amazing ingredients. The first time she tried this food she made happy sounds whilst scoffing and then looked for more. It does have a fishy smell but we soon got used to it. It’s not cheap but Coco is worth it. She doesn’t demand treats anymore so I’m guessing this food keeps her satisfied. The very high meat content is suitable for those who like the idea of a raw meat diet for their dogs but for whom it’s not practical. We and Coco are very happy.

I had high hopes that this rather premium food would help my fussy 13 year old lurcher with sensitive digestion to put some weight on, as weight gain is easier with a dry food. Well, how very wrong I was. Not only has he not gained weight, but he has lost more after a nasty bout of Colitis brought on by eating this food enthusiastically. And Yes, I did introduce it gradually over 2 weeks mixing a little more every day with his usual food. We had only actually reached half and half, so I dread to think what the result of a whole bowl of this would be. It contains "whole red lentils, whole green lentils, whole green peas, lentil fiber, whole chickpeas, whole yellow peas, whole pinto beans, whole navy beans", which I am fairly sure are what has caused the digestive upset. I know a lot of humans who would be a little gassy at the least after eating that for breakfast and dinner. How legumes come to be in a 'whole prey food' I cannot imagine. I think in the rush to put 'grain-free' on the packet, far too much pea protein, and now even lentils, are going into dog food, and these are even more indigestible than grains like rice and oats for a dog. Yes, wheat is likely to upset a dog's digestion, but so is all this stuff. Very expensive when you add in the cost of a tube of Canikur and a trip to the vet. I wouldn't even put it out for the local foxes, as I don't want to make them ill, so I might as well have just chucked £70 in the bin. An imprudent purchase for me and my poor dog.

My dog doesnt eat it much even it has good ingredients, looks like its gonna take years to finish it, there is only an option of a very big bag and its not sealed so i probably will need to waste it at some point

Le point négatif : sac de croquettes livré sans carton ! Le fait que le contenu soit vu de tous ne m'a fortement déplu mais ce que je trouve encore plus gênant, c'est que le sac est arrivé abîmé ! Depuis quand les croquettes prennent-elles l'air ??? Vu le prix facturé, je trouve normal de vouloir un produit livré en parfait état. Donc livraison... 0, c'était mon premier sac ici, ce sera le dernier. Pour le produit en revanche, ces croquettes sont tout simplement géniales ! Mon gros nounours a 9 ans et demi, je l'ai eu a ses 3 ans. Je lui ai donné des croquettes Orijen dès que je l'ai eu. Il est en excellente santé, il est très vif, son poil magnifique. Ces croquettes ne sont pas données certes mais par rapport aux croquettes à base de céréales on en donne beaucoup moins et, en plus, vu qu'il est en excellente santé on voit moins le vétérinaire...
