Book one and two. Absolutely amazing. Historically accurate. Full of twists and turns. Everything falling into place at the right time, only Fabiola gets on my nerves from time to time😆

Good read but my personal choice was for focus on I character instead of 3 divergent pathways which eventually re-merge.... Just my preference .... But still a great read

Better than the first...excellent
After reading the Forgotten Legion, I flew through this book. Since the majority of backstory and character development took place in the first book, it opened The Silver Eagle up. One of my complaints about the first had to do with the time frame and breadth of backstory that needed to be covered and the skipping of numerous years between chapters. This book has none of those shortcomings and is exciting, dramatic and wonderfully written. The characters are wonderfully concieved and the story stretches across most of the known world in just several hundred pages....if you got any enjoyment out of the Forgotten Legion, you will love The Silver Eagle....

Good but feel like a prequel
The battle against Scythians and Indians are interesting.I like the previous novel better though and if i am not wrong, you can burn the silk, right?Flaming arrows will destroy the legion. However, i feel like this novel is like a prequel.I can't wait to read the next one, The journey to Rome.I hope the ending isn't disappointing.

Great book! One of my favorites!
My wife bought me "The Forgotten Legion" a few months ago and I couldn't thank her enough. I couldn't hardly put it down. "The Silver Eagle" was the same. Not one dry or boring page. You're never left thinking "get on with it" as I find myself doing with so many books. There is enough non-fictional info in this to make it educational but the characters that Mr. Kane have created make it very interesting. If you like historical fiction, you will enjoy this series. I can't wait for the 3rd to come out. It's too bad that a 2nd rate movie star or burned out rock star can wright a half effort book about all the drugs they've done or whatever and sell millions of copies, meanwhile great titles like this are mostly left unheard of. Oh well. What can you do. I'm just glad I had the privelage of reading these great stories by Ben Kane.

The Eagle has crash landed.
I read the first book: Forgotten Legion, and really enjoyed it. It was a little long, but very interesting. I quickly purchased the second book and dove into it as soon as it had arrived. I found that there was a little too much detail this time. The kinds of details that made the first book good made the second book slow and hard to get lost in. It is a good book, but i couldn't finish it.

A GREAT SEQUEL
After reading and immensely enjoying his first book "The Forgotten Legion", and first installment in this series, I quickly purchased the Silver Eagle. I was not disappointed. Ben Kane has quickly established himself as a master of suspense and I found it hard to put the book down. I feel he is especially skilled at narrating the battle scenes but can also fill in the stuff in between. I do have issues with the graphic and horrific treatment of Fabiola at one point in the book which I will not go into but suffice it to say it is hard to read and not for the faint of heart. Ben Kane does an admirable job of following and weaving in the tail end of Ceasar's campaign in Gaul and his defeat of the Republican forces. Unfortunately, Ceasar is not portrayed very well(but it is a relatively small part of the book). I like Ceasar. I know he is a lovable murderer of innocent Gaulic tribes and he is a genocidal over achiever, but rapist? I think not. Why defame the great general. It's just not supported by the historical record. I know this is fiction but Kane makes it come alive for you. I do hope the third installment will quickly be on the horizon for purchase. I would definitely give this book a thumbs up and highly recommend it. You do not have to read (but it is also a great book) the first book, "The Forgotten Legion", in order to understand and keep up with the "The Silver Eagle", but I would recommend that book also. The 'Eagle' would make a great movie.

Following roman history
Well written, you need the first book "The forgotten Legion", for a better understanding. It's easy for a foreigner no-native English-speaking person.I'm not sure could be used as book of history, in terms of data and real roman behavior, so clear it is a historical fiction. I truly recommended.

Ben Kane does it again.
Ben Kane has fast become one of my favorite authors. Like how Bernard Cornwell owns the Saxon Era of Historical Fiction; Kane has come to dominate the realm of the Roman Era.The Silver Eagle is another great read, Kane writes at a fantastic pace. If you are even remotely interested in the ancient world then do yourself a favour and pick this series up!!

Tolle Fortsetzung
Die Geschichte schwächt nicht ab! Es bleibt spannend and man liest es dadurch viel zu schnell durch. Ein Autor nach meinem Geschmack.

Ignore the One-star Trolls - This is a top-notch read...
I've decided that every time I see a so-called review which appears to be the work of some sad Troll, I'm going to make sure I post a 5 star review to restore some balance to the overall scoring. As for this particular, brilliant novel, make your own mind up as to which one star 'review' that is... No-one has an issue with a genuine review. The point that many people are making on here is that there are a number of strange, bitter and twisted creatures out there who, possibly because they are such inadequate personalities themselves, feel the need to write negative 'reviews' when their comments make it clear that they haven't even read the novel. No relevant comment about plot, characterisation, style, or anything else. Just general bile. They are actually a species of Troll, and their activities skew the accuracy of genuine reviews. I have no time for them, and think they should be treated with the contempt they deserve. As for Ben Kane's Forgotten Legion trilogy - The Forgotten Legion, The Silver Eagle, and The Road to Rome - I've just finished reading all three over a period of 2 weeks, and found them compelling, strongly characterised tales, which were very hard to put down.. The detail of daily life in the Roman Empire is fascinating, and speaks of hours of painstaking research. The central characters are all strongly portrayed in a manner which really brings the tale to life, and the twists and turns of the plot kept me guessing all the way through. Brilliant stuff, so thankyou Mr. Kane for such an entertaining read. More of the same, please.. I'd give this trilogy 6 stars if it were possible.
