My Book of Alphabet Games (Kumon Workbooks)

good for extra pratice
Bought for my little boy for before he starts school. Found its helped with his letter formation although as its not really much of a game we only get through a few pages in a sitting.

Serves the purporse, but why name it 'games'?
The only 'game' in this book is 'connect the dots' and pages with this 'game' are in minority anyway. Mostly it just asks children to draw (or write, if you wish) letters one-by-one.This is not bad in itself and helps children to remember the letters name and order, but to call this book 'Alphabet Games' is a bit too much in my view.

Ok but as good as the Numbers books
I got this and an Addition book at the same time - I do like the Kumon approach and the Addition book is going down very well. My issue with the Alphabet one is the fact it concentrates on Capital letters for the first half, before going on to lower case letters - at my son's school they do lower case first. If I could have 'looked inside' this before buying I would not have got it.I think there are better books for practising lower case letter formations eg Hilarious Handwriting by Letts.

Helpful
My 5 year old is more than happy to be the baby in the family despite of having a little brother now. However, I do find it difficult to teach her letters and numbers, let alone reading... Till I came across this book. It is a compilation of tracing letters, mazes and dot-to-dots, whereby you've got to read the letters you're tracing or passing or joining up outloud. At last, letters are starting to stick! :)Oh, and this book tackles both capitals and small letters.
