Maybe Less Is More
This is a publication that might benefit from the the old addage less is more..I liked the broad range of artists that were squeezed into this hardcopy publication. Accepting the stated fact that it was also a reference book of sorts..the print quality of the artists work was to be kind was atrocious and the use of cheap paper with terrible chopping didn't help. It appears to be a case of the marketing hype failing to deliver which does not help the artists.Perhaps three slimmed down versions of the same book with attention to quality to enable budget purchases over a staggered period. In hindsight this might have been a smarter choice by well intentioned editorial board who even with my observations did do a service in illuminating the broad evolution of modern artistic expression at a very manageable cost.

Good Book
Honestly, I like the first edition better. However, I must say that this second volume is very diverse and tons of artists in it were pulled from all over the globe. The reason why I like the first one is that the selection of works are more sophisticated and more humble. I think you will get more inspired by both books, if you really want to expand your idnea of drawing as an art form.

Although this book is a bit pricey I do find it to be incredibly useful. If price is a concern
I use this book on the regular to pull ideas from other artists. A lot of incredible contemporary pieces with brief artist biographies. Although this book is a bit pricey I do find it to be incredibly useful. If price is a concern, I would say this book is very much worth what you pay for it.

Like the Vitamin P
Like the Vitamin P: New Perspectives in Painting books, the Vitamin D: New Perspectives in Drawing are excellent and often surprising resources for artists, students, teachers, and enthusiasts who want to broaden their understanding of what a contemporary drawing practice can look like. The scale, design, production value, and image quality is second to none.Vitamin D2 was a worthwhile addition to my library. Highly recommended.

Art is very dark and static.
Compared to the first VITAMIN D book the drawings included in VITAMIN D2 are dark and static. There doesn't seem to be any raw honest emotion involved anywhere. I was surprised by my negative reaction overall. I need to spend more time with the book so I might begin to understand why I think the work fell flat. Maybe, just maybe then I can see it in a redeeming light.

Excellent collection of Contemporary drawings, packaged beautifully.
This book is well put together and bound with a durable binding. The printing job is beautiful and it maintains the high standards found throughout the rest of Phaidon's Vitamin series. While the book lacks academic or scholarly content, it makes an amazing table topper, and belongs in any art-lovers book collection.
